Several threads on the subject on here, ' google' 'briskoda fabia mk2 Pulling Left'.

The Tyre Change might suit you, but the car should not pull left,

they should sort that out,

then they could still change the tyres afterwards if you would prefer not to have Dunlop Sport Maxx on.

They are leaving you with a car that still pulls left, and fitting tyres that will hide that.

Ridiculous really that Skoda UK do that.

(later at the next tyre change what happens if you fit something other than Continentals and it pulls left?)

Please Ask them,

what exactly the fault is with Dunlop Sport Maxx in 205/40 R17 tyres and is there a National or World wide recall on them.

Is it a manufacturing fault from Dunlop?

& why the majority of new Fabia vRS & Monte Carlos drive as they should on them in the UK,

but a few 'Pull to the left'.?

Ask,

are you fitting Pirelli Zero Nero or Continentals to the cars wrongly aligned from the factory just to disguise the 'Pulling to the left' ?

They said either 2 of them make tyres. I asked for the continentals. They just rang me for the speed rating on the tyres. Im new to all this stuff. I just get in a drive cars thats about it.

Unbelievable that they ask you about the Tyres on a vRS. ('Speed & Load Rating')

Is this a Skoda Dealership asking you to look at the Tyre wall, and read the Numbers?

Just let them have new tyres fitted if that suits you.

I think you should call 'Skoda UK Customer Services' & Send an Emaill to get a response in Writing,

and ask them what is really going on,

and why they are changing the Tyre Brand rather than correcting the cars Mechanical Faults.

Up to you really.

What the actual...

The dealer is asking you, the customer what speed rating?

Its supposed to be entirely the other way round

Sounds like complete incompetence to me. I think id be asking some very abrupt questions at that alone. Nevermind the pulling to the left

Its a Skoda/Renault dealership (Lookers) tbh they sorted me a very good deal and been very helpful. When I go in ill have a word n make sure my car is fixed rather than just replacing the tyres.

Because they are both 205/40 R 17's but measure them side by side.

205 is the sidewall width.

There is slightly more tread on the road surface with the Dunlop Sport Maxx,

(also they are a directional tyre, and also should be fitted correctly as pairs for 'Run Out')

& a different XL Sidewall, its small measures but all has an effect,

http://www.wheels-inmotion.co.uk/forum/index.php?showtopic=165

The Continental & Pirelli have a slightly taller and wider sidewall,

i think a bit lighter on the steering.  as you change one Brand for the other.

thats when just using normally,

**The pull left is still with the car, its just the tyres disguise it.**

Last week i had to change my tyres when i blew out a 215/40 17 " tyre,  car drove nice, steering felt good.

The car drives straight with a good feel and no tramlining or the likes.

Cheap Goodride 215/40 17 tyres on the front.

Dunlop 205/40 R 17 on the rear.

(Both are Directional tyres, that are on front and rear)

So 30 minutes later i have on 4 Pirelli Zero Nero 205/40 R17, set at 30 psi.

and the steering felt like it was so light and no feeling of grip.

So i adjusted the Steering Assistance to give less assistance, (GTI/vRS setting adjusted.)

and had to to have it with less of a skittery steering.

Tyres will be changed this weekend to get shot of those Pirellis.

george

These are, Dunlops on the car and Pirelli next on the pictures to the left.

Then in the middle 215/40 17 on and the Pirelli 205 next to it and as tall a tyre.

Lookers in Stockport?

I made the mistake of going to them to service my car after moving to the area.

Awful dealership. About as much use as a solar-powered torch.

Hi George,

I appreciate there are small variations in actual tyre dimensions between manufacturers for a quoted standard 'size' but can you explain exactly why that would cure/disguise the pulling to the left?

I've swapped between brands many times on cars and sure grip and traction levels can be different but I've never noticed any change to steering pull. What is it about the Fabia vRS that makes this issue sensitive to tyre brand? As you say - it's not as if there has been any kind of international recall etc on these Dunlops.

A sad situation with Skoda, like the Twincharger Oil issues, the best brains in the Car Manufacturing industry can not resolve matters,

so just change items.

It is not for me, just an interested observer to tell them how to sort their manufacturing faults.

'Vickey'  had to reject a vRS, got a Monte Carlo, then all this rubbish continued.

4 years Skoda have has to sort things out.

Maybe stop fitting Dunlops at the Factory.

Or fit them to cars that are built and aligned so that they run correctly and safely with any 205/40 R17 tyres of the correct Speed and Load rating fitted, and do not require ones with particular characteristics.

http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/260271-my-monte-carlo-is-pulling-to-the-left-help

2014 comes and nothing has changed.

http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/303492-monte-carlo-pulls-to-the-left-when-driving

Ask Skoda,  or ask Dunlop what they think.

i have no idea, they are the ones that take off Directional Tyres from an International Tyre Manufacturer that they fit in the Factory,

& still fit today to more than 1/3 of the Montes & vRS sold in the UK.

Put them on at the Factory and then send the cars to Dealerships to supply to UK customers.

So 7,000 or more cars 2010- 2014, some pull to the left and on those eventually after saying 'They all do that',

No problem we can find,

1, 2 or 3 attempts at alignment they change tyres on some cars, and other needed to fight for longer.

Never has a car that pulled left myself, just ones that like some tyres better than others.

Or i like how they are on some tyres rather than others.

This is what I was getting at in my original point - nobody has a clue why this occurs. It seems Skoda end up changing the tyres in hope rather than expectation. There is no logical reason why swapping brands would make a difference in thus situation. Our previous hatch had a minor "pull to the left". Started doing it after about a year on the original Contis and continued when these wore out and replaced with Hankooks. SWMBO wasn't bothered by it (her car mainly) so I never went to the hassle of getting the dealer to investigate it as I couldn't be bothered with hearing "they all do it sir"....

Tyre Run out & the fitting of tyres  is a well understood thing by anyone with an interest in tyres.

UK Camber is well understood as well, and Handed Springs/suspension.

UK Cars are built to be safe as we drive on the Left,

but the cars drive fine when you take a right handdrive car to Mainland Europe.

Skoda UK just deal with it as usual,

the majority are OK, some are almost OK, and we will deal with the ones well wrong if someone complains enough.

Sorry, OT,

but another Twincharger owner had SKODA accept yesterday that the car needs a new engine and are footing the bill,

even though it was out of the Original Warranty.

My dunlops are perfectly fine.  No excesseive pull to the left, infact every skoda i've ever driven has a natural tendancy to pull to the left.

Interesting how they will swap 4 perfectly good tyres for this issue, but tyres covered under a maintenance contract they will only change at 1.6mm!

Could it just be that they fit the asymetric tyres incorrectly, this leads to wear problems and they don't fit the Dunlops as first choice replacements?

I've had no problem with the Dunlops, but the dealer conducting the service didn't offer them as first replacement.

George and others may wish to have a good read on a website I have come across:

"Wheels in-motion"

Apparently founded by a guy who has a garage that specialise in alignment on race and road cars.

Not read the technical stuff myself yet, will do so when I'm feeling better after this bout of flu is finished.

Just picked up my car from the dealer to swap out the Dunlops. They've put on Conti Sport Contact 5's. A quick drive down the motorway back to work and I can report that there is no more pulling to the left issue. The steering weight actually feels slightly lighter, which is to my preference anyway.

  • 2 years later...

I have the original Dunlop Sport Maxx tyres on, car pulls to the left, dealer check the car over and said they tyres were to blame. Advised me to go for Continental Contact 5. Anybody know if this fixes the problems, or what other tyres have people tried? I've got used to it pulling to the left slightly, no
