Have you driven both? How did they compare? Surely the decision comes down to which one you like best rather than a load of Skoda nuts telling you to get the Fabia ;)

Granted the Fabia is better built... and it has its own unique style, but I think the Cupra lifts itself above the blander models with its bodykit.

I toyed with the idea of an Ibiza or Leon, but Skodas just seemed a bit less "yoof"...

Getting more and more "yoof" by the day though.

That's why I went for a grey Fabia estate! Only admiring glance it's gotten was from some 65ish chap in a grey polyester shirt... :D

I'd go for the Ibiza Cupra, larger turbo, FMIC, 160 bhp as standard and stands out whereas there are sooooo many vRS's appearing now, it's becoming as common as seeing Tavia vRS's on the road :rofl:

Interestingly I phoned my insurance company and a modded fabia is still cheaper to insure than the standard Cupra. I've only driven the Fabia as it is hard to find a Cupra and I would only test drive the Ibiza if I was sure about buying it - but I'm a little of that stage. I thinkg the Fabia looks better and I like the idea of a Skoda and peoples pre-conceptions. The other thing is the seller of the Ibiza needs to sell it this week and I'm in the middle of selling my house, a new Fabia I could get anytime. Dilemas!!!

Hi folks newbie here. Currently have a CTR, but possibly chopping in for a VRS in the near future.

I test drove both back to back a couple of months ago, here are my thoughts

VRS-still not sold on the looks, lowered suspension bigger wheels would sort that out a bit

Cupra TDI-Not sold on the looks of this either, but i would say it beats the VRS in the appearance department, looking front and back end it looks :cool: , but from the side it sits to high.

VRS-interior is spot on, feels well put together, seating postion is spot on, only thing i could see being a problem is the colour of the seats.

Cupra TDI- everything is well layed out, but it feels all too plastic. The one i drove had 500miles on it and it was rattling its head off, put me off right away.

VRS-performance and handling. Never got a chance to push the VRS but i did get a couple of blasts 2nd/3rd gear. Was well impressed with the oomph, and the speedo dial was not slow in creeping up also. If i was buying i'd go back and get a longer test drive on some decent roads. It felt tight enough in the bends with good communtication throught the steering, but again i would have wished for some better roads, so i could have pushed it a little further. Gear changes also pretty crisp and accurate, brakes felt strong enough for the speeds i was doing.

Cupra TDI- Got to test drive it on some decent roads. This thing can certainly shift, going by my reckoning it would not be far behind my type R, in gear acceleration is very strong. Was not to keen on the gearbox as it felt a bit sloppy. Handling wise it felt tight, not just as tight as the type R, but tighter than the VRS. Brakes also fairly good, but not in the same class as a type R.

From the two my choice would have to be the VRS, it feels better built, cheaper to buy, cheaper on running costs, and also skoda seem to be gaining a very good reputation out in my neck of the woods.

For out and out performance i would think the Cupra would be a better purchase, as it has everything already in place if you remap it, however for the price of a Cupra you could get yourself a CTR.

I think mechanically the Seat is better but looks wise it has to be the Fabia. The Seat looks to me like the body is too big for the car

IMHO the Fabia a much nicer looking car than the Ibiza (Which bears an uncanny resemblance to the Daewoo Lanos!!!!),

I had a 53 plate WRX with Ecutek remap running 280 horses last year mate. Cost of running it as a daily commuter was killing my bank balance. Dropped to a 182 to save some bucks, but build quality was hard to live with, so then i opted for my present and 2nd CTR, but cash flow is becoming really tight therefore i have to drive like miss daisey, which really is defeating the purpose of having a car as such.

So as the weeks roll on, i am being swayed towards and oil burner. :)
