Looks almost like corrosion? Give it a wash and see if it comes off, lol

it could be grease from the wheel bearing

Highly unlikely.

Its only just got there since my brake pads have started grinding on the discs. Was gonna jet wash them tonight but wanted to check if anyone had anything similar

I think you just answered your own question!!

They will be metal filings or rust then

Is traffic film cleaner any good for cleaning it? Chink21 what did you use?

No not man enough just get some wonder wheels

Rust from disc, disc pad dust and general dirt from the road,  a good clean with soap and water will get most of it off, then down to some soft solvent for remainder.

Mine gets it on all four wheels through neglect to clean the wheels on a regular basis..LOL

So wonder wheels is the only thing that's going to remove it?

No there's other decent wheel cleaners but wonder wheels is good and readily available

Check your local Aldi / lidl, they often have alloy wheel cleaner spray on offer - couple of quid and its pretty decent.... and cheap :D

(Wait for the Detailers to cry at that comment.....)

iron x is what you need to use on your wheels, its the only thing that will truely remove the metal filings from the wheel as these filings will be hot from basically metal to metal surfaces and they will have burnt into the laquer :-( you need to get the problem of the brakes sorted first as the longer you leave it the worse it will get.

i always though that was brake dust.. seen it on a few of my old cars
