New Octavia Estate SE or Used Elegance Estate (mk2)

Featured Replies

Hi All, I'm looking at two Octavia Estates at the moment one is brand new 1.6TdI SE / 2.0Tdi SE 3 - 12 weeks wait depending on spec (and what's already been shipped) or a used 2012 2.0TDi elegance 21k on the clock from the same Skoda dealer, one is obviously a Mk2 and the other a Mk3 what are your thoughts and what would be the better option

Cheers Boyo.

I have a mark3 VRS TSI estate and previously a Mark 2 and there is no comparison. Much better drive, more space and much improved quality of finish. I cannot comment on the difference on your options in terms of 'bells and whistles' but If the wait and cost isnt a consideration would go for the mark3.

Same here...Mk3 is miles ahead of Mk2 in all areas, a totally different car in my experience. I liked my Mk2.. but I've found the Mk3 so much better as TonyD has said, in drive, space and finish.

Mk3 is overall the better car but you'll of course pay a premium for it. If money isnt really an object here probably suggest the 1.6 or 2.0 SE Mk3. The 1.6 real world probably isnt alot slower than a Mk2 2.0 TDi 140; the 2.0 150 is an absolute peach; makes for a bit of a sleeper.

I can't compare with the MK2 as this is my first Skoda but I just picked up a new MK3 1.6 TDI SE estate and I love it. Initially I was worried about the 1.6 being underpowered but it's more than enough. I'm also really happy with the build quality, ride, cabin noise, standard equipment, fuel economy etc..

I wasn't too bothered about colour etc. so I went to the dealer and asked them what they could get their hands on and they ran through a couple of vehicles that had been shipped from the factory. I put a deposit down on a Metal Grey with some extras thrown in for free, Steering controls, drivers arm wrest and spare wheel. They also took a bit off the price and gave me a good trade in price for my Nissan Qashqai. Took them 2 weeks to get in, took deliver on Saturday and I am now the proud owner of a Skoda.

Indeed I think the 1.6 TDi for those not overly interested in outright go is probably the sweet spot of the range, the Greenline 3 particularly so.

The 2.0 is considerably quicker (easily Mk2 vRS TDi quick) but probably a bit overkill for most in the market for this kind of car, ive also found that dynamically the 2.0 with standard suspension isnt a patch on the Mk2 vRS dynamically either....its by no means terrible but its not much fun to throw around the twisties. Its ride is way more compliant though and for long distance work its worth the trade off.

If this helps....3rd gen Oct 1.6 tdi 105 manual in comparison with 2nd gen Oct 2.0 tdi 140 manual. 1st and 2nd gear no real difference(not really important, it's a diesel) but 3rd, 4th and 5th gear, and of course the 6th on the 2.0 tdi. There is a big difference. I wouldn't say the new 1.6 is underpowered(it's enough) but the 2gen 2.0 tdi is considerably stronger. Ther rest you already know. The finish and the car in general is miles and miles away from 2 gen Oct.

I've gone from a II 2.0 manual to a III 1.6 DSG and the III is much nicer.  The DSG changes gear faster than I ever could and as a result it accelerates as well as my old II.

Haggle harder and speak to some other dealers if buying new?
