Fabia Monte 1.6 105bhp Dash lit up like Xmas Tree

Featured Replies

So I have a big problem with my November 2012 Monte.

Recently the car has had a series of strange dash board light faults:

When I engage the cruise control the (!) light in yellow comes on as well as the light to indicate that cruise control is engaged. The cruise control works fine, and when I disengage the cruise the (!) light also switches off.

When I turn my headlights on the following lights also illuminate: windscreen wash indicator light (washer fluid is full), the battery indicator light. When I switch the lights off the other lights also go out.

Now my engine management light has also come on when ever I start the car up. (this is the second time this has happened and where I have had to have one of the exhaust sensors replaced).

I have taken the car to my local Skoda garage which at the moment is in The Hague NL (its a right hand drive UK car but I am currently working over here in the Netherlands).

They have spend the last 2 days trying to diagnose the problem, saying that they cannot get all the information they need from the diagnotics because it is a UK car...(seems strange to me), and they thnk that all the problems are in fact electrical rather than anything else.

The car has done under 10k miles and I got it from brand new. I am really frustrated as I dont want this problem to continue to occur once the warranty has expired in November this year.

So my questions:

1. Has anyone experienced the same issues?

2. Can I retrospecitively purchase an extended warranty for a further two years and is this worth doing?

Help me people!!!

Oh and as an update: the diagnostics in Europe are completely different to the UK. According to the engineer at the Skodas garage the fault indicators are showing the position on a Dutch Fabia, and this is completely different to the Uk version. I don't understand how this can be possible, but it is... So the engineer is now having to do trial and error to find which of the fault indicators is not working.

Surely if the car was registered Nov 2012 (as you indicated) then the UK warranty runs out in 2015 (not 2014).

Or would it be that you did not buy this via a authorised UK Skoda franchised dealer?

On the fault itself - I would be first looking at all the earthing points, and also at the area where one of the wiring looms goes around the engine management component (viewed from the front of the car - tucked away at the back right hand side.)

As above.

Vehicles in the UK have had a Recall of sorts, on Looms, the type where Skoda Might or Might not Contact you,

and probably will do some work to replace parts when your car is in for a Service.

Call Skoda UK Customer Services and check where you stand, does your car need anything doing with the Loom.

RE

Extended Warranty at the end of the Original Manufacturers Warranty.

You can buy from Skoda in the UK, a 1 or 2 year Extended Warranty,

Or buy one from Car Plan.

That is Extending a Warranty on a new car.

But since the question is about an 'Extended Warranty' on not a new car,

as you Say, Available to buy via Skoda Dealers or Direct from Skoda UK when dealers can not be bothered,

Or as you say, from Car Plan, bought online at a lower cost.

Great advice, in fact that is what the engineer has indentified, the wiring was pressed against something which the SKODA garage thinks may have been causing the problem.

You are right about the warranty, I forgot I get 3 years not 2!

I will check this out with Skoda UK seeing as my car is a UK vehicle (all be it temp on Dutch plates). I will be back on a full time basis in the summer in the UK, so will get this sorted!

Thanks for all the advice!
