Compensation awarded for no cornering lights fitted on VRS

Hi all. Interesting article in this weeks Auto Express magazine. A customer complained about not having cornering lights on their VRS despite the brochure and website stating they were fitted as standard. Apparently a Skoda spokeswoman stated they are looking to introduce cornering lights later this year, with an estimated cost of £100. Think that will only be available though on new orders, so doesn't help all of us existing VRS owners.

  • Don't be daft. Nobody here has claimed that they can't park without them. What several of us have said is that when you are parking they can sometimes be handy.

Yes cos you can't have them standard in the UK but otherwise they work as designed.

Skoda are seriously extracting the urine charging £100 to activate this function in the ECU.

 

A friendly VCDS owner will probably do this for a beer or 2 ( as my local friendly VCDS owner did on my Octy).   It was a lot cheaper than the £100 Skoda want.

I have had an 2 Octavia's since 2009 with Zennons, It has a spot on the Maxi dot to activate the them, but it doesn't. I questioned this with my first one, and as Zennons move with the wheels already, the cornering lights are not nessasary. They were fitted originally to work alongside standard lights. I saw their point and accepted it. However my wife's Seat has them and they are an extra aid to those blind enough not to see the indicators flashing during the day time and pull out on you.

Why would anyone want them on there car anyway?

Yes seems a stupid idea to me as normal lights will work just fine and that's all that's really needed. Just another gimmick.

As I said I have Zennons,they turn, and are useful on bendy country roads. But I think cornering fogs are too low to be of much use when sat in the drivers seat.Fogs don't usually do much good in fog unless its like pea soup, when normal lights bounce back.

Also ruin the look of the car having lovely xenons with the day lights then yellow cornering lights coming on when turning

I think you all misunderstand the cornering light function.

It only operates at low speeds. AFS operates above a certain speed, so the two things complement each other.

Cornering lights are for low speed manoeuvres like parking, AFS for normal highway speeds. You shouldn't have cornering lights coming on whilst driving down twisty country lanes, unless you are doing less than 30mph ish.

I kicked off at Skoda when mine came without them as it said it should have them in the brochure & got sent £150 in compensation so looks like I had a result

They're very handy for parking, especially when reversing near low walls etc...

Cornering fogs lack any real usefulness, but if it says you should have them in the brochure then they should be there. I personally can live without them, as I could live without the useless (but standard kit) headlight washer jets, Lane Assist and.cigarette lighter.

There is no standard cigarette lighter...... Cancer pack is an option isn't it?

I have no idea if mine had them. Just sounds like an idea to get use out of what is otherwise a useless light.

Im yet to find a time when iv needed them and having seen other cars with them I think they look naff, form>function and all that :D

The speed threshold can be adjusted with VCDS. I could set them to only be active below 10 mph for instance.

I find them really useful in car parks and when parking for illuminating kerbs etc.

I agree, they look naff if they come on at 40mph, especially if you have AFS and Xenon's.

I think Mr Higgins must have sold out to Auto Express with a 2 for 1 deal as he was featured the week before about the standard fitment of booming noises from the rear suspension!

On the matter of cornering fogs, I spec'd them from the factory so paid the £100 but at least I got a £3k discount off total OTR price plus another £1k of finance incentives so all things considered I was happy to pay for the option. On my old Superb, they were fitted as standard and I used to get people telling me one of my fog lights was blown, but I think they are more common now so becoming more accepted as a feature, particularly on VAG Group cars.
