M6 Speed cameras

Featured Replies

Right then, I'm off up the M6 tomorrow from the M42 junction in the south to the Lake District in the north.

What speed cameras are there on the way? I heard a rumor there are specs in the roadworks?

Last time I travelled up there a couple of months back, the only cameras were SPECS in the roadworks and they were pretty obvious :D Aside from that, I didn't see any (and I wasn't caught by any ;)) but I pulled off at Manchester

The speed the rest of the traffic is going is usually a good indication :D

I believe so.

Usually spotted from a country mile away - bright orange/yellow fabric behind them......

Or are those a different camera?

Any road up, stay within the limits, no worries.....

Those are specs.

Only "fixed" cameras will be on roadworks, so stick to the limit through them...mind you, do that anyway, as a courtesy to the poor buggers working on the road... :)

Then all you have to do is keep an eye out for the camera vans!

Rob.

Yep only cameras are the specs one at the road works.

They're mounted on nice ornamental blue poles but have no orange fabric or any other bright colours on them.

Are those specs? I thought the blue cameras on blue poles were TrafficMaster ones?

I live in lake district - the m6 between manchester and penrith is awesome, especially as you get past lancaster. There are no fixed cameras on unrestricted motorway, but the roadworks do have them, although it often has camera vans on the bridges, but these tend to be around lancaster. I believe the police will tell you where these are though?

Going up Shap....awesome with a car with plenty of torque!

yeh they are.

SPECS are required by law like other camers to be brightly identified.

Only required to be brightly coloured if the money is being used for certain things.

Derbyshire is full of green cameras.

These are ornamental style poles with a bar at 90 degrees to the upright fitted withj a specs camera not a straight upright blue pole with a traffic master camera on the top.

Only required to be brightly coloured if the money is being used for certain things.

..like 'mid morning break' Doughnuts or the Chief Commissioners Christmas party booze tab.

ouch ! nasty buggers...

I've not done the trip for a few months since moving back to Manc from Scotland but ...

Watch for the Talivans on the motorway bridges. Gatso's are only in roadworks. There's a fair few places (usually around Lancaster area) where there's the distance check stripes on the road but no cameras. A lot of people see them and hit the anchors without checking for a camera.

Yep be careful, SPECS cameras on M6 in Staffordshire/Cheshire. Be very careful for talivan just after M62 leaves (Haydock Park), then as mentioned above, random vans on M6 from Preston upwards.

If you're in the Lake District national Park watch out again, see quite a few 'safety partnership' vans there too.

Yup, I went up the M6 last month and there was a string of 4 or 5 linked SPECS cameras on each side in the 40mph limit road works.

They look like a normal CCTV camera with a round illuminator on each side, held up on an ornate looking pole. There are also lots of camera warning signs there too. Very different to trafficmaster.

Didn't see any revenue vans on either journey.

Also watch out for the unmarked cars ones a silver mercedes estate again around the Lancaster area

I remember when I went up to there a few years back the police van was on a bridge in some roadworks where it was 40 on the M6!
