Selling Octy Vrs for a Fiesta ST2 ? - am i mad?

Featured Replies

so, had the Blackline vRS for over a year now (7600 miles) , nice motor but cant but help feeling a bit bored of it now and fancy some fun back in my life,

for the life of me i cannot get the Fiesta ST2 out of my mind, has great reviews and has been said to be one of best fun cars to have under £20k

Prior to the octy i had a Fabia mk1 vrs and a clio 172 which were great fun :)

thing is im 1 in year into my 3 year pcp with skoda, i just got a settlement figure today and it doesn't seem all that bad tbh,

I would lease the ST2 though, G2L have a great 2 year lease offer on at the moment: http://www.gateway2lease.com/z_ford_fiesta_1.6ecoboostst-23dr_15159_leasing.php#.U1aDSVd8rhQ

i could sell the octy, pay off the finance, pay the deposit for the Fiesta and still have money left over (mountune? :D)

ive yet to have a test drive though but will sort one out this week

i know its subjective but you reckon this is a good idea?

  • There's no way a standard diesel vRS is quicker than a standard Fiesta ST (new one), the power to weight is too much in the ST. Both can be re-mapped to similar figures, so I'd assume the ST would sti

  • I cant believe we have badge snobbery from people who drive Skodas lol   Went to look at an ST2 this week, was very nice just not big enough for me

  • Pic of my council house drive!

I know what you're thinking. I love my vRS, best and fastest car I've had, however, if I'm going out on a few B roads I'll always pick the 182. Most fun car I've owned.

If the finance makes sense and you don't need the Octy for the obvious practicality benefits then do it. The ST will be more fun for sure.

Or get a Clio Trophy for a quarter of the price. Best hot hatch for sure.

have it mapped its a totally different monster

You are mad, I ****ed past a petrol Fiesta ST the other week in my diesel VRS. Granted on the corners he had me, or would have if he had more bottle than me, but I would much rather have a larger more comfortable and more practical car than a chav fiesta ST!

Before anyone says anything, I say chav because you tend to see Fiesta and Focus ST's parked outside houses on council estates, and Octavia's are more outside bungalows in the sticks where old crumbles live. Like me, but I am 35...

thanks guys

already had a tuning box on it for about 6 months, ok, not a proper ecu remap but didn't want to risk voiding the warranty

il have a think, i guess first thing to do is get a test drive booked for the st2

clio 182 albeit nice car but a bit dated now for me, would like something new to have a bit of piece of mind and some nice toys :)

DSG is nice and all but think will go for manual next!

Couldn't go back to a 'little' car.

But if you want one fair play to you.

Good point, each to their own!

Little cars are more fun. :)

Ahem cough cough. I have a petrol Octy Vrs and a Focus ST3 on the drive. The drive is neither in front of a council house or a bungalow. I love both cars.

I doubt many chavs will be buying £16k Fiesta STs

More likely some rich dads will be buying them as playthings for their daughters, if we're in the realms of typecasting

I'll give them 5-10 years and all the chavs will have them lol!

If you can put up with the lack and cramped  space,3 doors and in my view poor fit an finish internally then fine.

Engine and road holding is fine.

Personally if it's you everyday car,then I wouldn't.

Better residuals than the Ford are likely as well.

Award for donut of the month post.

We are in the market for a new hot hatch to replace a nice Ford Puma.

The fiesta ST will be the first we test drive. Its the benchmark car at the moment in that sector.

Chavs in a 16k+ supermini don't think so me old mate.

As for braging about out running an ST the old model got a 150hp 2.0 petrol engine and was neither one though thing or the other. The best bit of the car was the brakes. Ford missed a trick with it and have made amends with the new ST.

Its a proper fast Ford and will be very desirable in years to come.

I've got a big list of cars to look at and sadly the fabi vrs doesn't make the list. I have a feeling we will have a ST parked up IN the garage of our house in the near future.

Mate I am not some sort of 'willy waver' but have a word with yourself ! Just off the top of my head I remember that the diesel Vrs is around 100bhp per ton? ??? A fiesta ST is 154bhp per ton :0 so was the bloke even trying even if you were ?

Also he wouldn't need any more bottle than you around the corners either as quite simply he wouldn't break sweat, less weight in (braking) and (less weight) out of the corners and weight transference would leave you terrified never mind under steering into a hedge.

I tell you what, go and do a track day in your diesel and you will be amazed, cars that you expect to destroy will surprise you (the small lighter ones) and the cars you don't won't !!

All I know is that the guy in the fiesta was driving like a twit for miles and finally it ****ed me off and I thought id show him up figuring id have him on top end. And appeared to comprehensively repeatedly. Ok lets quote facts and figures ill trump him on load carrying and kerb weight.

I still wouldnt have a Fiesta. Hair dressees car. I mught let the wife have one though.

I ain't arguing with you fella, having had one on a weekend test drive that's why I know because I'm buying one for the wife shortly !

Have you ever heard the phrase quit while your behind?

The same hairdresser crap is leveled at numerous cars including the puma, Widely regarded by people who know what they are talking about as an absolute gem of a car.

Same goes for the MX5, its clear you have no real knowledge of what makes for a good car other than top trumps type willy waving.

Have a dig through some reviews. You may learn something.

If the ST was trying, it'd leave the VRS TDI without any doubt whatsoever.

Hairdressers car?! I wouldnt mind what profession I did if I got to take the drive into work and home again in something as fun and grin inducing as the Fiesta ST. :)

Where`s that thumb print on your head :-)

I get where you are coming from if you have lost someone after an accident... but its a risk we all take just getting out of bed in the morning, I know the risk is higher on a bike than in a car but accidents can happen no matter what you are travelling in or on...

I am not saying its not a nice car, I love the MX5, but that too is a hairdressers car IMHO. I look at cars such as Fiesta ST's, Puma's, MX5's, Clios, Fiat 500's, etc etc and then i look at the people I know who own them. All of them are gay or very camp men, female teachers, female hairdressers, young girls, old ladies, and so on. See the trend.

Even my dad who had a Fiesta ST for less than a month before saying yep i remember why i dislike small cars, and non VAG cars and returned to the fold.

This is going off topic and i know i have touched a few nerves, but now I will touch more...

Other cars I wont own... Saab convertible, Audi convertible, Merc convertible, actually any convertible unless its a supercar as these also put you firmly into the bracket of questionable direction if you are a guy. I know one chap who bought a Fiesta and a MR2 convertible with redundancy and we all took the **** and pointed out a 45 year old guy should be driving something more manly, to which he replied well actually guys, you have all worked with me for 15 years and i have kept it a secret!

But at the end of the day its each to their own, and as Rowan Atkinson pointed out, you think you look cool driving a car till you see your reflection in a shop window and realise you dont.
