Hey Everyone,

Our yeti is on its way at last and I'm counting down the days until it's ready.

ELEGANCE, LED TAIL LIGHTS, DOOR BIN, SPARE WHEEL, S/S PEDALS, SOUND SYSTEM (KESSY?)

Nearing the cut off point to amend my order and I'm wondering if I'm missing out on any optional gadgets to add..

Is there any optional extras that you find particularly useful or really add to the overall feel and experience?

For instance I've chosen to add the Sound System with a lot of research. Our dealer didn't have one to compare and I really value opinions on here with people who live with it day to day.

What would you chose if you were to order again ?

Had the sound system on my original Yeti and now also on the new FL, I thinks it is worth the money but other on here would disagree. Have KESSY also on the new one and it is excellent.

I also added a number of other options and have no regrets.

Heated windscreen.

I ordered the sound system. It's good but in all honesty isn't much of an improvement over the standard & rather excellent 8 speaker system.

If you have an MP3 or play music from your phone I would strongly recommend the MDI interface as a better place to spend your money.

If you're likely to carry stuff then get the load net (see my other thread) as it is not easily retro fitted.

The sunroof is expensive but is a real wow factor - and very useful if you are likely to leave pets parked in the car.

KESSY is keyless entry not sound system.

Oh one other thing I would add if I ordered again - front parking sensors. Never needed them in 25 years of driving yet somehow I find it really difficult to judge where the front of the YETI actually is. I have heard other owners say the same.

Number one option for me is without doubt the panoramic sunroof. Makes the whole interior feel airy and light and having it back in this weather isnt far off having a convertible! Passengers usually comment positively on it too. Sound system upgrade is worth while if you are playing decent sources - certainly better than the eight speaker setup but arguably being left behind by similarly priced optional factory systems on other models now eg new Octavias Canton system and the Seat Sound system in the new Leon. Front parking sensors are useful but Ive only used the auto parking feature to show it off to people

Thanks for info re sunroof.its something I'm going to definitely consider. However because I'm going for the 1.2tsi city version (amazed how refined it was during test drive) would it struggle if i added additional weight?

Thanks. I didn't even consider MDI. I'll probably end up changing the sound system for MDI, heated windscreen maybe front parking sensors.

I've seen on some other topics that it certainly makes a difference to mid frequency sound and the extra speakers add to the ambience.

You must read my topic ref  the 1.2, sunroof and spare wheel. You cannot factory order a sunroof with spare wheel because of the emissions. The spare can though be ordered separately.

 

Ref the added weight of the sunroof and spare, it will depend on how many people normally travel in the vehicle. With us it's normally only me and 'er with a combined weight of 20 stone...I a'int saying which is which either, so having both together should not be too bad. Better than say them + 4 x 20 stone occupants.

My wife doesn't have the soundsystem and I do, you certainly notice the difference.

 

I still think the electric seat is well worth it for the improved comfort and seat adjustment.

Is the sound system purely the addition of 4 more speakers.

 

Does the electric seat have any memory function i.e. 'im & 'er.

Yes it has three different memory positions.

You can also code the two keys to two positions so when you use your key (or the Wife's) the seat moves to the correct position before you get in.

The sound system is good. But £390 better than the standard system? Probably not.

 

The standard 8-speaker system is surprisingly good anyway - really good bass & clarity. I managed to wangle the 12 speaker upgrade (and a load of other options) for free as part of the deal of buying the car, but if I had been asked to pay for it personally I would not have bothered and I'm not sure I would miss it. Even with the sound system upgrade you have to be careful how loud you crank the radio up, or how much bass you can put through before the speakers start distorting.

 

At the volumes I listen to, I can only turn the bass up to +3 (IIRC it goes up to +8) before distortion kicks in. Not something I would expect of a near-as-damn-it £400 option.

The lumbar supports goes up and down as well as in and out, plus you have more movement on the seat base cushion.

Effectively you can control the height and tilt seperately as the height, front of base cushion and rear of base cushion are three seperate functions rather than one controled by the rachet handle on a stock seat.

 

As I am tall I like being able to have the rear of the base cushion as low as possible and then tilting the front almost to the top so it gives good thigh support.

I find the regular Yeti seat nowhere near as comfortable, but then I am not average sized.

Detachable tow ball + factory fit electrics

So useful, not just for caravan / trailer ( tips runs where you just don't that stuff in your nice yeti ) bug also bike carrier, etc!

Hmmm - I would only advise a tow bar if you seriously plan to use it or you don't plan to sell the car privately at the end of your ownership.

Rightly or wrongly I know a lot of people are put off buying a car when they see a tow bar fitted for fear the car has had a hard life.

Yes the seat has 3 settings. one for you, one for the better driver the wife, and one if you dare, for the boy. it's great.

Does yours wait for the key in the ignition?

 

Ours both (March 2012) move the seat as soon as you open the door to get in after unlocking.

Well I don't have electric seats. I am very surprised the seat moves on key in ignition and not on remote opening though.

Hmmm - I would only advise a tow bar if you seriously plan to use it or you don't plan to sell the car privately at the end of your ownership.

Rightly or wrongly I know a lot of people are put off buying a car when they see a tow bar fitted for fear the car has had a hard life.

The factory fit towbar is removable and unless it was pointed out to a prospective purchaser they wouldn't know it was there. I doubt if any caravan owner is guilty of giving their Yeti a hard life, quite the opposite I'd think.

It seems to have a mind of its own.

MOST of the time it changes position as you unlock, sometimes it doesn't move in response to correct key, sometimes it waits until you put the key in and turn....

Occasionally it misbehaves when I'm showing the system off - embarrassing!!

BUT I love it to bits anyhow.

Ref. Driver Power, that was one major reason I purchased it. One of my only 'wishes' would be for a larger boot, spare wheel (which I wouldn't be without) does intrude.

I read somewhere on here that the door bin is like an afterthought and not worth the money?
