I always keep my helmet covered.

LOL - It would be weird to have limbs covered but your helmet uncovered!  :D

I'm booked in, first time for me too - got some instructor time too.

I'm getting insurance for the day so if it goes majorly wrong I'm not binning 15k or whatever it's now worth! Looking like about £90.

Who did you take your insurance with and what is the excess if don't mind me asking?

I must admit I feel safer on the track than I do on public highways!

Not to mention I ALWAYS at least try to keep my helmet covered!

Its through http://www.moris.co.uk/

Found a recommendation on Piston heads for them, never used them before, never been on a track day either so first time.

Got an online quote, didn't have time to pay for it, but will do soon. Liked it as I could do a quote online, saves ringing - too lazy!

Think excess was 10% of the value of the car. I put 17k value so £1700.

I find the best insurance policy is trying not to crash.

It's worked so far...

If only that worked on the public road?!  :D   I try to do that too..... :D

Indeed I don't plan on crashing at all, nor getting too giddy. Bit of tyre squeal will do me and a few extra G in the bends.

But should the worst happen there is no way I could foot a big bill. So for £90 I'm as happy as a pig in the brown stuff. :)

I've managed to get a Lambo and Ferrari round tracks, did manage to spin off in a Formula Ford though. ('experience days')

Single seaters are really easy to spin, no XDS to help you out  :D  - it saved me from an otherwise embarrassing spin on a wet Bedford track

My golden rule for track days is always check the rear view mirror for cars wanting to pass you and always let them pass even if you are able to stay ahead - if you loose it and they are too close the chances are they will not be able to avoid you being so close. In any case  Always found it more exciting to chase than to be chased  - there's no better feeling when you hook up a corner perfectly and zoom past them on the exit B)

Can't argue with the price of Moris, especially for piece of mind...

I was asking about excess since to go over it you'd have to really drive like loon to cause so much damage or, in which case it does make sense, a loon would drive into you with a large speed difference

I tihnk in the case of my car, it wouldn't be difficult to cause £1300 of damage if I was to have an 'off'...  Not that I'm planning on doing, I probably won't go quick enough to have an off :)

I suppose the good thing about having a mark 1 fabia, is if I have an off and say knacker a wing and front door or something like that, I can source replacements quite cheap.  Can almost buy a whole car just for the spare panels. :)

Vrs front bumpers are a bit of a premium though :D

Personally the value of the car is pretty irrelevent.

Once I get out there it's about being so focused on going as quickly as possible while leaving a slim safety margin for the unexpected, that the value of what you are driving makes no difference.

At Combe I drove the new GT-R as hard as anything else.  Without insurance.

You just get "in the zone".

I guess the relevant factor is how deep your pockets are to pay for any repairs? Some people might be worried that if they smash up their car (especially if it their daily driver and needed for work and family duty etc) that they will struggle to afford to fix it.

The other thing to consider is that whilst you may be in control of your own driving, other peoples actions are out of your hands. If somebody brakes way too late for a corner and smashes into the back of you causing ££££ damage are they going to do the decent thing and pay up or shrug their shoulders and walk leaving you to foot the bill for their error?

Don't get me wrong I'm not anti-track day at all, just making a point regarding the peace of mind that insurance may potentially offer some folk. :-)

I would read the small print on the policy as when I got a really good quote I was surprised to read that an instructor had to be in the car at all times I was on track.

I told the insurance company this was not going to happen and my quote jumped to about £1500 + £1500 excess

Interesting.... I checked the tyres I have on my track wheels when I put them on the car today.

Not a one of them was made after Week 12, 2008. 3 of them are 2007.

Think I'll be binning these before the track day. Question is... to replace with what? 595RS-Rs or try to find some more part worns and hope I get 4 matching ones which are newer.

Any ideas?

WHY?     I would run them and not worry, after all most sell by dates are there so you spend more money.  Are the sidewalls cracked or cracking between the treads?    If they look ok they probably are, if they are cracking badly I would then think about changing them.

The Avon's I ran on the Fabia were badly cracked and they did three track days without issue.

I'm going to run them on the road for a few days, clean up the rubber that was all over them from Oulton Park last October!

The sidewalls look fine, the only issue I ever really had with old tyres was one that became misshapen... like a 50p.

We'll see how they are... but at the end of the day, they're still Pilot Primacy HPs.

Any updates on helmet hire?

Any age restrictions for this?

Any age restrictions for this?

Must hold a valid driving license is usually the restriction.

Under 16's are not permitted onto regulated tracks in UK

Hi all,

I will be catching up with Richard at Blyton later this week. Will post an update then re helmets.

As of today there are 30 tickets left for the track day. Thank you to those who have booked, it maybe a very quiet day on track...

With such a shortfall and 30ish days to go, I'm going to have to promote elsewhere unless booked in the next week or so.

So the message of the day is: book today, do not delay ;)

Booked :)
