Blyton Park Track day - 3rd August - From

Colin - please, call me Tom!

There is a thread on Pistonheads in the track days section (not posted by me - but I replied).

Still surprised not so many people have signed up, especially with the option of a half day at roughly the same price as two taster sessions sometimes run at other venues. Great chance for novices to try a track with plenty of run off and not too many other cars on track at the same time.

You're surprised ;)

I'm opening windows.

Edits made to list.

Half days not a sniff.

It must be timing. Looking at other track co's for dates around ours and they all seem to have spare space.

If we can get to 20 I'll be moderately happier on the day. I just wish some of the earlier rounds of funding had fallen into place, it would of been such a different track day. I believe the meet side will be amazing, or ok at least. Hand made trophies, f1 top gear thing, even some grass karts... cannot believe how quickly it's come upon us :)

Where are the people from combe? Thpught there would be a que.. this is a great opportunity to try a whole day with the brisky crowd!

School Hols, most people away.

Is that my thread?

It didn't exactly go very far. Need a bump on that I think.

QUESTION - A friend of mine expressed interest but he does not have a car he can take to track atm. Is there anything on site he could hire for the day?

Where are the people from combe?

Combe = South West

Blyton = North East

With a four hour slog between the two I can see why some Combe attendees haven't signed up for this.

It's also a much larger expenditure, risk, and drain on consumables to do a whole day that it is to do a ~15 minute session at Combe.

It'll scare a lot of people off doing a whole day and knackering tyres and brakes and drinking loads of fuel.

15 attendees is pretty good I reckon.

I've never seen a larger attendance at any other full day. I mean we struggled to get to 10 at Oulton last October, and the How Fast events take a while to get up to 18.

I bet if you divided the day up into sessions and sold 30 minutes at £30 the sales would rocket.

I'm sure Blyton could organise it.

Green flag - 30 minutes on - chequered flag - 5 min break - green flag - 30 minutes on - chequered flag etc

£100 to go in all sessions.

£30 per half hour to dip in at a specified time.

Possibly a little late to be changing things now but just my two penneth worth

see here Javelin Trackdays Car Hire

they are only based a few miles East of Blyton too so transport costs shouldn't be through the roof (assuming the cars are based at their head office)

Alternatively has he considered these guys?

Fair point, as a complete newb to this I'm thinking of doing 3 or 4 sessions through the day, unless I get bitten by the bug!

Even then the cost per session to me is a bargain. Chance to 'play' on a track for £100. Bargain.

Just checked the second link, pmsl.

30 minutes on track at one time is a bit much. 15-20 minutes tops really

After all rental is ALWAYS the fastest car of all :D.

2hrs and 4 times out at Bedford is half a tank of mk2 vRS Fabia @ Bedford SW circuit. Nobody forces anybody to keep going non stop. For £100 even if you do 4x20mins with breaks inbetween all day is still good value for money. For me it is 2hr drive to get there or 133 miles one way - if I take it easy and keep religiously legal speeds I will need half a tank just to get there and back so £30 down the drain literary and I have Bedford, Barnads Hatch, Silverstone and probably few others within hours drive from where I live.

BTW, If anybody has spare €6000 I'd recommend 3 laps of Silverstone in 2012 Lotus F1 car :)

Yeah I'd be needing green flag breakdown though!

Tyre buying time and need your opinion.

I know Federal RS-R seem to be flavour of the season and there is nothing wrong with that.

So which one in order of my preference:

1.

Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta 215/40 ZR17 87Y

Thank you for your input

595 RS-R is THE only track tyre out that selection. :)  On that basis, (and based on tested trials on the mongrel) I would go for those over any of the other ROAD tyres.

+1 for the Federals, they have been really good on the Golf and I have to say the more they wear the better they get.

I think we also need a list of who is camping the night before..

I have the pradas they are a good compromise but are by no means a track tyre. I have them on currently and will be fitting another new set soon after the few track days coming up as i use them as a daily tyre too

Nankang ns2-r are also getting good reviews. Similar performance to federal 595 RS-R and Yokohama AD08s. I'm running the latter and very happy with them.

Updated the 1st post.

Taster sessions are feasible. You still have to be there for the briefing at 9am.

But £30 for a 30min window, by time you've got in, ready etc it's about 20-25mins on track.

For £60 you can relax a little more and have a morning or afternoon as open pit lane.

Still some instructor slots free too.

Or the whole day at £100, open pit.

Looking forward to it now.

Colin, link on 1st page goes to some bizzare thread from 2007-2008?
