4x4 lowered back looks a lot lower

Featured Replies

Has any one come across lowering there car and the back looks lower? It's a octavia 4x4

Got the wrong weighted springs on?

You maybe fitted fwd springs so the extra weight over the back end has caused it to sit lower

I got them from apex, they are the right ones .... Not sure now

Springs determine ride height so definately something a miss with the rear weight ratings

Guessing you have an estate 4x4

Chances are you could have saloon springs on or non 4wd on the rear

No mines the saloon, in thinking to buy some rear adjusters so at least I can bring it up a bit

Possibly just got standard non 4wd saloon springs on there.

If thats the case adjusters will sort the height but won't sort the comfort and the fact the springs are wrongly rated

Maybe its all in your head? You have to remember the design of the arches on a mk1 octavia can deceive the eye and make a car appear to run reverse rake (back end down)

The front arch is higher than the rear by design so they all look higher at the front although in reality they are level

were they specifically marked as Octavia 4x4 saloon?

or were they maybe for an A3 Quattro? or Golf?

the ad says 4x4 in the top, but when you look at the list of compatible vehicle it lists 2wd cars (both diesel and petrol) , so i would say its incorrectly listed as 2wd springs are not the same as 4x4 springs as already stated. They physically fit, but aren't right.

4x4 springs are completely different to 2wd so there is no way I could of got the 2wd, 4wd rear has individual spring and shock

On the back?

As does the 2wd

Spring and shock are seperate

Google

Part No: APX-80-7080

As stated in the add and other sites list them as golf 4motion springs, plus there made by apex so will be rubbish anyway,

This might explain why its sagging at the back

Ahh ok.. Would you know if a coilover adjuster would fit the spring on rear?

  • Author

Sorry big jase I didn't know it was separate too, but the 4x4 rear springs are much smaller

No they won't but you could get some spacers made up to,

I did for my coilovers as my vrs had same issue even with rear adjusters wound all way up,

2 bits of round soild alley milled down with a hole drilled through middle so they could be bolted,

Can you buy these spacers? Or they something you have to make?

Wow that looks bad.

deffo wrong springs.

Try get hold of the correct ones would be the better idea?

+1

It would help if you put up some decent pics.

Like a proper side on shot where the car is parked all on the level and not with 1 side on the kerb.

Bear in mind the front wheel arches will be higher so you can steer. Measure the sill from the ground at both ends.

I don't think it looks as bad? What do you think?

This keeps coming up time and time again when fitting lowering springs for the mk1 Octavia and it baffles me how these companies havnt made springs that don't sink the back end like that. Don't just presume you have the wrong springs though because I can definitely say even Octavia specific springs lower the back like that. Last year I ordered cobra springs from euro performance actually stated as being vrs specific. My car looked exactly like yours and the ride was awful because the back was so low the shocks were bouncing off the bump stops. I had a brief go with some mk4 springs too and the car felt exactly the same with both sets. I did get some spacers/seats made at work so the car sat level but tbh I hated driving the car bouncing about like a pogo stick. I ended up going back to standard and its a lot lot better.
