Well unfortunately yesterday afternoon, on the way to meet a friend that's just come home from Dubai, my mk1 Octavia vrs was totalled. Coming down a dual carriageway at NSL and came up behind a micra. He wasn't traveling as fast as me, (70) so I pulled out into the right hand lane, (mirrors indicator etc) and so did the civic behind me. I was just about to go past the micra and he decided that he should be in my lane. there was literally 3/4 meters if that in-between us. Hecame straight over, indicating very last minute when he had two wheels in the right hand lane . (apparently for the roundabout which was approximately 500+meters away.) I stamped on the brakes, (just had brembo's fitted aswell) and did everything I could to try and avoid making contact, but to no avail as the civic behind me ploughed straight into the back of me, sending me straight into the micra, straight up onto the grass/central reservation to my right hand side. the micra and civic came to quite an abrupt holt, but with me being on the grass, the vrs slid for what seemed an eternity, finally regaining control I rolled it off the grass, double checking there was no traffic coming down the dual carriageway and up onto a verge on the opposite side of the road. Gutted is an understatement. Had to go to hospital with the paramedics and because of the speeds involved, all the spine board, head restraints were put on me and I was taken into re-sus as a precaution. But im alive, walking and just badly bruised. It could of been so much worse. currently waiting on a phone call from the officer who attended, and think they've taken the micra away for examination. something to do with seeing if they can interpret how long he indicated for etc.

some pictures a friend took for me.

Ouch, not good at all. Glad you're okay. In the end it's just a car, you're the important part!

Not a good day, big plus that your ok tho.

There are some real muppets on the road these days.

People Just arnt aware of other road users anymore, mirrors are on a car for a reason and driving way way to close to each other is another style that is becoming very popular.

Hope you get it sorted out to your satisfaction.

Sorry to hear that. Some drivers have no idea what a wing mirror is used for. Hopefully you'll have no issues with insurance companies trying to attribute blame elsewhere.

Glad you've walked out ok.

Cheers for the replies fellas. Its just a piece of metal at the end of the day! Everyone walked away in the end, and thats all that matters. Hopefully insurance will sort everything! Waiting on a phonecall tuesday morning. :(

Wow.. thats nasty.

Haha, I felt like taking a hospital selfie and tagging you in it on instagram! as soon as it comes back from the insurers it will be being broken! so will get a for sale post over there as soon as I can!

AS a member of the been ares ended club, i know it aint fun... Tooka transit in the back on a roundabout a few yrs back.

its not so much the impact as the unexpectedness of it..

Glad your ok. and everyone else is too!

Glad to hear you're ok and that the Octy did a good job protecting you. Looking at the photos personally I can't see what the police are trying to establish as the Micra was in the process of changing lanes at the point of impact (their rear off side, you're front n/s, plus you must have been in your lane as the Honda hit you full on up the chuff) so the Micra driver was in the wrong based on the physical evidence which backs up your version of events?

Good luck with your insurance claim.

The attending officer and paramedics said similar mate, just got to wait for a call off him, and his statement of events, his opinion etc. insurance are ringing me Tuesday to arrange collection and it will go from there. hopefully it wont go on for too long! Was supposed to be taking the vrs over to le mans in june, but now got to find an alternative, and fast haha!

Again thanks for all the replies and well wishes fellas, appreciate that a lot!

Yeah it was quite a shunt! not sure if he even made it onto the brakes. The creases in the rear quarters surprised me a lot tbf!  Not keen to endure that again if im honest!

are you sure you werent racing looks like a sporty civic ;)

Sorry to hear about your loss. glad you are ok

Cheers for all the replies again fellas. Dave190 it was a type r! The lad was only young in it, about 20 odd. No racing though, my vrs wasnt running right, actuator wouldnt hold boost. I was planning on having it changed and a smf clutch conversion but that wont be happening now :(

That's bad luck mate.  Over the years I've seen a few accident photos on here and I'm always amazed how well the Octavia stands up in a smash - tough old cars for sure.

So, the Mk1 vRS becomes a little bit rarer now.  Glad you're okay though.

Glad you're ok, but damn that is a bummer :( Hopefully all will go smoothly with insurance, but I know that's no real consolation.

This is why I've installed an in-car camera - muppets need catching on CCTV!

All that for the sake of using i mirror :(

Sorry bud, glad ur ok

But seriously .....GRRRRR

WHY DONT PEOPLE USE MIRRORS !!!!

I got rear ended so hard the other year, my airbags deployed and smashed my arm. 4 operations and 6 months off work, so could have been worse. Micra drivers are the worst for not looking where they are going.

Wow big hit civic must have been up your arse as he hasn't slowed much

The Vrs has performed well the crash structure did it's job perfectly

You won't get that back from insurance as that will to bad damage!!

But take from it your alive and that's all thataytets

My best mate stuffed his civic into the rear of a reno scenic at about 50mph and it was alot worse than the civic pictured, snapped engines mounts the lot
