Octavia VRS 'R' version?

Featured Replies

Eyup all, I'm still happily plodding along with my 61 plate VRS CR which has now reached 72500 miles in 2 years 4 months from new. My new job will cut my mileage from 30k+ pa to about 10, so, to the question...

As Golf has the R and Leon has the Cupra 280, does anyone know if Skoda are doing a proper VRS-R (or something) to match?

Thinking next car in 6 - 12 months...

Yes, but VW and Seat both do normal versions like the VRS ie, FR and GTi.

Then VW have the Golf R with 300hp, and Seat do the Leon Cupra 280hp.

I want an Octavia equivalent...

Not a chance, TSI vRS is about as fat as a top end Octavia will get, they shift considerably more TDI's too so cant see them going to the trouble of a low volume vRS-R as there just wouldnt be the sort of demand they'd need to justify producing it....would also dilute the other Golf R/S3/Cupra offerings.

Isn't the Octavia's vRS the equivilant of the Golf's R or the Leon Cupra?

No, its the equivalent of the Golf GTi/GTD

Well, I'll have one so if Skoda read these boards, get building!

same question that used to get asked of the MK1 Octavia vRS. Why it didn't have the 225bhp engine of the Leon R/S3.

If the VRS-R existed I would have bought it over the VRS every time!

Me too, I'd have one, however my mk3 TSI VRS isn't too shabby on performance and has easily achieved a sub 6 second dash to 60, plus has also achieved 44mpg!!

Looking at the way prices are too, not sure a VRS-R would be a cheap motor and judging by the addition of the 100kg for the Haldex system, not so sure on the mpg either.

Hang on a minute, I'm talking myself in to remapping the VRS here!!!

Apparently some tuners have now cracked the ecu code and are seeing this engine reach over 300bhp stage1, in a car weighing just over 1.3t!!!

Yea, 300bhp should be easy stage 1. My S1 is coming soon and has the same engine as the vRS TSI/Golf GTI etc - it's getting driven from the Audi forecourt to the tuners!

In your dreams maybe

Didn't the Evo standard estate vRS TSI car clock a 5.8 second 0-60 dash recently ?

6.4 in the AE test for the Estate although I do believe they cracked the 6 seconds in the Evo car.

No dreams buddy, atual, after all it is kicking out over 160 bhp/tonne and 190flbt/tonne so not too shabby and certainly very capable, plus my runs were timed via GPS,...

Any links to those?

The Evo one (pretty sure it was Evo) I read in the magazine.

Skoda obviously missed a trick being so pessimistic

I reckon it's more the fact of not upsetting the VW group sales wagon! The VRS is slightly lighter believe it or not than a 5 door GTI and there are many 0-60 posts of the GTI hitting 6 seconds easily.

To be honest, I've had a Golf Edition 30 mapped to over 300 bhp and my VRS doesn't feel much slower.

The VRS is quite a light car for it's size and power and this makes all the difference.

I understand the whole weight thing, but to say it can beat 6 seconds "easily" is a bit of an overstatement

If it does, and I still think it's a big 'if', you'd need to be absolutely ragging the goolies off it

Please re read my post as the easily bit relates to the MK7 GTI which in various tests has been hitting the 6 second mark without issue nor being ragged as you put it. Plus with the spec I have, my VRS is slightly lighter.

I have the DSG box on my VRS and I can hit sub 6 seconds to 60 with launch control, straight road, gps verified with a big smile on my face, day in day out.

Sorry to disappoint you, however the MK3 VRS TSI DSG is a great car and a lot quicker than stats suggest.

I suppose the sub 5 second times the testers have got for the new S3 and Golf R must be wrong too??

Anyways, I'm happy as know what the car is capable of and still have the space, practicality and 40+ mpg on a run.

Sub 5??? Bloody hell. Feels slow too lol

Don't see the point really, because with either 180 or 220 hp under the bonnet you're already more than capable of losing your licence with moments carelessness.

Strangely enough, owning a Mk2 vRS DSG estate remapped to 200bhp, I too know what the car is capable of

Just looking at the Golf R.........296bhp and a VW claimed 4.9 sec 0-60 time for the DSG

And the Audi S3........300bhp and an Audi claimed 4.9 sec 0-60 time for the S-Tronic

How much lighter is the Octavia, without the benefit of 4-wheel drive?

Mmmmmmm.............
