Manual or dsg

Featured Replies

I had always driven manual boxes ( several 95 Aero's ) but when I ordered my Superb the V6 only had a DSG box. I was not sure at first but after 3 years I have no regrets

I went for the DSG as the wife has mobility issues and using the clutch on a manual 'box was getting difficult for her.   A week later we bought her a Fabia DSG...

I had a manual Octy Mk II 2.0TDI (remapped to 170+) before the Superb and had a manual Rapid for a couple of days not too long ago and still enjoy the manual, however most of my commute is stop-start and I now do a lot of towing so the DSG is a no-brainer.  I have flappy paddles but don't often use them - usually only when wanting to drop speed when towing down hill.

For me the DSG took a bit of getting used to and I do sometimes curse it for being in the wrong gear; it's a little too keen to change up at low speed and I've had occasion where I've wanted to move out of a junction or onto a roundabout at speed and it's dropped all the way down into 1st and made a huge noise whilst wheel spinning like the devil.

Though the 6 speed in the Superb is smooth the 7 speed in the Fabia is better still.  It's the same 7 speed in the 1.8 TSI.

As I said in my first post (#6) only one person can decide which you should go for... and thats you!

one mans meat etc etc

There is no right or wrong answer

Try them both, and let us know your decision

Enjoy the test drives
