Towing with a VRS Estate

Featured Replies

Hi All,

New to this site. Lots of great info on here.

I'm considering getting an Octavia VRS Estate as my next company car.

Just wondering what they tow like ?

I tow my rally car and trailer ( 1300kg total ) currently with my Mondeo Estate and that has self levelling suspension which works really well.

Obviously the Octavia will have stiffer suspension but I do have concerns when it'll be fully loaded with the trailer.

Has anyone out there towed a heavy trailer with one ?

Also on the Skoda site it show 'Tow Bar Preperation' for only £170. Seems very cheap if it's a fully factory fitted towbar or is it just with loom etc ?

Mant thanks all.

A friend has just bought a vRS Estate for towing his race car (probably similar all-up weight) - reckons it does it with ease.

Pre is just wiring, I believe - not the towbar itself.  Dealer fit or aftermarket

The Octy 4x4 has a higher towing limit than the FWD versions and would like be more capable, although it depends on what car licence you've got as by default you can only tow up to the cars actual weight?

The towbar prep is just adding in the wiring to the rear, made that mistake myself and dealer quoted a lot to fit towbar so will be getting it done elsewhere most likely.

I'm hoping the O3 tows at least as good as the O2. My Mk2 FL VRS is a great towcar especially with the DSG gearbox. I regularly tow a 1240Kg Caravan.

Towbar prep is only good for trailers, not caravans though as it doesn't give you the split charge function.

My main concern is the rear of the car being really pushed down without the self levelling suspension.

I'm hoping the Sporty stiffer setup will help to compensate.

I guessed as much with the towbar preperation. Seemed rather cheap from the factory.

Can an aftermarket removable ball be obtained ?

Thanks again.

Yeah Westfalia is due to release a removable one in the summer.

I tow a Caravan at 1350KG no problem. Suspension stays level.

Excellent towing vehicle.

I have a detachable bar fitted to mine.

Towbar prep will allow you to disable reversing sensors (I would think). I am getting a Westfalia one which looks identical to the one fitted to my Dad's Yeti ( Factory fit ). Harrogate Towbars have already fit these to a few vRS's. The bar is detachable, and there is no visible cue it is there at all when you remove the tow ball. The hook up swings up and out of sight. They do have to cut a square out of the underside of the bumper, but you cannot see it unless you get on hands and knees to look underneath.

I am just going for a single electric for a trailer. To have the full system with the reversing sensor cut off is hideously expensive, they have to rip the whole of the dashboard out to fit a controller. No thanks!!

I've only got a 1.6CRD estate, and must admit it too tows really well.  I tow about 1050kg of caravan and as above it stays pretty level.

It tows very well, ours has already done 700 towing miles since April.

We went for the towbar prep as it just meant the fitters didn't have to pull the trim up to lay the wiring down

Are you sure about ripping the dash out for a controller to be fitted? There are coding options to disable the reversing sensors when a trailer is connected, or do you need the official towbar prep to be able to do that?

Yeah Westfalia is due to release a removable one in the summer.

I asked for a towbar from the dealer, all the paperwork says its a Westfalia, cannot see the towbar with the ball removed unless you lie on the floor.

My dealer fit one uses all genuine VAG parts, not. Westfalia

A new enquiry from the westfalia-automotive.co.uk website has arrived.

Message: Hi,

Please could you let me know when a retractable or removable towbar becomes available for my 2014 Skoda Octavia VRS estate, and if there is a dealer in Guernsey.

Thanks

Online at www.pfjones.co.uk. Westfalia, Witter and Bosal make them to name just a few. Full wiring kits too. The same bar is used for Audi A3 and Golf as I imagine the MQB ,mounting points are all the same.

The towbar from Skoda is about £220 i think plus wiring kit, but only standard wiring in 7-pin or 13-pin is available form Skoda.

Mind made up.

I've had one for the last few days as a demo and am really impressed.

Looks like it's a definate and I really like the Metal Grey Metallic.

One quick question though.

Is Cruise Control an option on the VRS ?

I can't find it in the configurator but it's shown as an option in the brochure.

Any ideas please ?

Thanks

Good choice!

I can't be certain on the 15 model but on the 14 MY it was an option (although it should have been standard kit IMO).

Cruise is standard on vRS for MY15.
