Heads up for new cars - something to look for?

Featured Replies

My suspension has been killing me since day 1. I have even been considering changing the car. I have had my car 7 months and have done 10,500 miles. It's had its first service. I complained about the ride height when I picked the car up, as it looked like a 4x4 with large gaps between tyre and wheel arches all round. I was told it was normal.

After reading this thread, I went out with a torch... Guess what, I have the same plastic blocks fitted!! I am so mad. I will be down to my dealer on Friday when I get the chance. Can't go tomorrow, as I have a 180 mile round trip with work. My front tyres are also shot after 10K miles, completely worn smooth on the outer edge of both tyres.

Dealer is Mervyn Stewart in Belfast. Anybody else that has a new VRS from them, please check your front suspension. I will update you all when I have confronted the dealer.

  • That's not a warranty repair. That would be at the cost to the dealer, skoda would wash there hands of it and then give the dealer a roasting.

  • Crickey Moses, I didn't know such things existed! One to check when I collect mine tomorrow! Cheers!

  • No Neil, they didn't. Hence me thinking I won't use them again. I told SUK about the whole thing, the lady I am dealing with there said she had rung the dealer and told them to make sure they checked

I'd be straight on the phone to SUK tomorrow if I were you.

Thanks Neil,

Going to do that and will see if they contact the Dealer before I get there on Friday. Also just noticed that both front gaiters are ripped. I don't see anything on the rear shocks but probably need to jack the car up to check properly.

No wonder the tyres are worn on the outer edge as your suspension is jacked up so altering the camber to positive!

I can't believe they fobbed you off with 'normal' and also managed to service it and not notice!

I'd want 2 new front tyres and 2 new shock absorbers as a minimum as compensation.

I would take copious photos of the offending articles prior to taking it back to the dealer, as I wouldn't trust them not to remove them and then claim they had been taken out at the initial PDI check!
