Polar Fis+

Featured Replies

I was reading a thread the other day and a member on here was saying about assising in the development of the firmware for the PolarFis+ units. Quite like the look of the unit, but wondered if it bridges the gap and would translate between BAP and  CANBus. This would restore funtionality to MFSW and to MaxiDot (Audio and Navigation). If it does, or could be added in, I suspect it would shift a few extra units ;) ;)

  • I meant pre FL Octy as it has specific benefits for the pre FL maxidot and controllers it seems, but I stand corrected!!!

  • Well it arrived.   Was very easy going in from below. Took 5 mins.   Just a couple of pics to get your taste buds going:       Phil

That was me mate but I was helping with the firmware for the simpler PB01 polar unit which allows newer BT modules to work with older pre FL maxidots. They convert the BAP signal from the module to DDP which can then be displayed in the maxidot. They also allow the older telephone MFSWs to work with the newer modules too (following my discussions with the manufactuters).

Phil-E was looking at the full polar FIS plus module to give him OPS and climate readouts on his Columbus without changing controllers. But I'm not aware of anyone else who has tried it and not sure if Phil went for it either.

Is your issue because you have an Amundsen which uses BAP only? If so I think the polar FIS+ will do the BAP to DDP conversion too and make it show in maxidot. You could ask them at auto-polar.com, the forum is pretty helpful and is how I got involved in discussions with the programmers.

Ah, so would a PolarBT would restore the MFSW functions and the MaxiDot Audio and Navigation options with my RNS315 and the Scout?

Edit:

Crossed posts. Ignore this one.

Yes. I knew I'd lose a certain amount of functionality, but was hopeing there would be "some way back" as it's just a protocol conversion.

I'll head on over to their forums and have a sniff around.

Cheers buddy! :) :)

No prob. Good luck

  • 1 month later...

Out of interest, did you manage to get any confirmation from Auto-Polar about this? (ie converting BAP to DDP and vice versa).

This thread on their forum back in 2012 indicates that it wasn't possible: http://www.auto-polar.com/forum/showthread.php?506-BAP-lt-gt-DDP-Converter-RNS315

Do you know if this has now changed? (I also have an Amundsen+ in my Scout, which I would like to communicate with my Maxidot).

I've taken the plunge and bought one!

It's on it's way to me.

Will update with lots of info etc once I've got it fitted.

Phil

Brill, you are the first pre FL owner on here I am aware of to give it a whirl...

Nope Richards got it on Yeti VRS

Be interesting to see how this goes. Good luck Phil :) :)

If the results are positive enough, I won't be far behind as it would be interesting to see if it will cope with the BAP-only RNS315 and the pre-FL MaxiDot and MFSW :)

Shame you're not closer to me or you could have tried it out on your car.

Have you emailed them to see if this is something it can do?

Indeed, it is a shame there is such distance.

I haven't mailed them yet, been a few other things going on down here outside of the Skodaworld. I have seen RNS315 mentioned on the site now, which is good :)

IIRC Columbus swings both ways on protocols. Do you think would it do BAP-only? ;)

Aye. We all have lives outside of here... I hope!

Ah yeah.

I can try switching the Columbus to BAP with VCDS and see if it shows up without the FIS box. Then I'll plug it in and see what happens.

Phil

I hope you like it, I'm very impressed with mine.

Yeah can't wait.

Mainly getting it for the extra features like PDC on the columbus and mirror drop on reverse etc but will be cool to have the extra engine info etc on the dash.

Do you have a bluetooth phone module fitted BossFox? Does it affect where the phone menu is in maxidot as the info I've read suggests it does or d you think that's just if you have a newer module fitted and the polar FIS is converting the signals?

Phil

No, my blue Yeti doesn't have bluetooth (I bought a cheaper SE with less toys) so choosing the phone option on the maxi-dot just converts the display to the polar one.

No worries.

I'm sure I'll love it.

Just can't be bothered removing the wiper linkage to fit it! lol

All of about 10 minutes work :p :p

It does sound more faff than it actually is though.

Eddie argues it is easier to go from below. Im my case you can just see the gateway looking up but there is not enough room when moving the relay panel across to get to it. So I always go the 'wiper' way and it does sound worse than it is as Alex says.

I think it depends on what you have fitted.

I found it easier to go from below too.

I put installation instructions up on their support forum for a RHD FL RS Octavia.

Well it arrived.

Excellent. Partly gutted I did it the hard way now ha ha. Interestingly your PDC graphics are slightly different, but equally as effective.

What options have you got on maxidot now?

Oh and of course you just need to upgrade BT...

If I fitted one of these would I regain the parking and Climatronic display on my retrofitted Bolero? .Also would the Bolero ( BAP only) be able to communicate with my pre f/L (DDP) maxidot?
