Roomster 1 1.4 tdi 70hp

I have the above vehicle which has done a reasonable mileage (155k) it has started running rough as tho' its on 2 cylinders. this gets better as it warms up but does not clear entirely. i have been told its something to do with some flaps in the inlet manifold? any ideas? The vehicle is well looked after & serviced properly by a qualified mechanic. it is still driveable, just not as smooth as it was/should be. Has anyone any experience and/or ideas?

It needs a full engine diagnostic scan to determine the problem, anything else would be guesswork

I have had the vehicle to Hortons in Lincoln, they found nothing on the diagnostics, they had a brief look under the cam cover & suggested that there was some ware in the valve train. They then suggested the next step was to start stripping the top end of the engine down, which at their hourly rates would be prohibitive. The mechanic who looks after my vehicles, who has 40yrs experience & is an excellent mechanic as against a fitter, has had a look & thinks any ware is minimal & quite light for the mileage. There is no noise from the valve train. I have since had an independant diagnostic check who found exactly the same, however he was able to diagnose the injectors separately, two are perfect & one is very slightly out, but it is slight. Hortons say they checked the injectors & all was well. Has anyone had this problem, the rough running is worst in first & second gears & by the time you get to 50/60 on the open road the engine runs & pulls well. it always starts first roll. Any ideas?

My first thought on hearing of a PD misfire would be to suspect the injector loom, which is installed under the cam cover.  These can start to break down after time due to heat stress, etc.  But, I just don't know how this relates to your exact running symtons.

yep,

apparently easy to change, but don't take it out and try to refit, apparently the fracture when you take them out, so have a new one ready to go when you take it out

not expensive either from what used to be said on the mk1 forum here
