Noisy Sunroof

Featured Replies

Can anyone tell me please if they have experienced issues with the tilt and slide sunroof? I've had my car for almost a year and it has been in to the local dealer every 3 months due to the sunroof making annoying rattling sounds, they have told me there is nothing that can be done, the current tempory remedy is giving it a good clean followed by some sort of lubrication, the fault is due to a build up of dirt / debris!

I too have had this problem, looks like the dealer did the same to rectify the problem. I also had the same problem with both front doors, top seals sometimes sounded like a bee in your ear, glad to say they seemed to have rectified this with the same procedure.

Yes, similar for me, after it has been open, shut it and creaking noises start. Remedy for me is to clean the rear edge of the sunroof trim and the rear edge of the opening with detailer and that holds it for a week or two. Only sunroof I've had with this issue. Judging from what you guys have said, the dealer won't be much use.

The Sonax detailer works pretty well for the 'fix' .

Sunroof doesn't rattle but the retractable net sunshade thingy under it does when it's retracted.

No nasty noises in the first three months of my sunroof.

Mine runs smoothly after 6 months of regular use.

I have a brand new Octavia vrs and a sunroof rattles. Any updated or solutions? Thanks in advance.

No idea, use mine regularly and no issues after 9 months. :)

Prior to our Fabia I had a Renault Clio with an electric sunroof.

I bought it around Christmas time and the following Autumn the sunroof started rattling. It rattled so badly the stereo had to be jacked up to hear over the top of it. It went in to be repaired under warranty several times over the next 15 months. This included new seals, two new 'cassettes' (the surround I gather) new glass panes etc - much like Trigger's Broom, I'd probably had at least two new sunroofs fitted in separate parts. Still no joy. In typical Renault dealer style, I was told with a straight face by the service desk guy, that had the Queen one of these cars, her sunroof would rattle too!

So I got rid and got the Fabia, with air-con and no sunroof!

It turned out that some parts of the sunroof surround we made of a different alloy/composite metal that others. During the Summer (warm) months they would expand, but come colder weather they would contract again at different rates, leading to gaps and pressure points elsewhere which produced all that rattling.

IF this is what has happened with the Octavia (and the time of year sounds right to me) a small dose of money-making through cheaper parts could mean big (warranty) bills for Skoda, and a very annoying car for its owner.

IF this is what has happened, there will be no cure unless the sunroof is redesigned or remade using revised (i.e. proper parts) from scratch and retro-fitted to any defective car.

You have been warned!

I've had a Kia Sportage since May '11 and the sunroof has creaked since day one...It was back to the dealers three times in the first six months then I just gave up..I just added to the list of reasons why I don't like the car (and there are many!)..It bugs the hell out of me every time i drive it!...Have my new vRS ordered and the one thing I certainly avoided was the sunroof....Just in case :p

Are peoples complaints the sedan roof? Or the pano roof in the estate? Or both?

My mk5 golf sunroof worked perfect during ownership. The wife had a 55 plate clio from new and it rattled, never cured it. Seems we weren't the only ones then. Luck of the draw. I will say my manual tilt and slide sunroof on both of my mk3 escorts work perfect, no rattles at 29 yrs old lol.

Tbh, thats deffo not an option for me then on the vrs! Not helped by the £750 factory option price tag.

I have sedan.

Doe anyone that have the estate/combi have this issue? I know the blind could rattle in retracted position, but hadnt heard of any rattles on the pano roof before. I did lots of research before ticking that box (because the wife would kill me if it rattled!)

Even with the little niggle of occasional creaking, I would still opt for the sunroof again. It brightens up a dark interior and its ace on a sunny day. It does affect fuel consumption when driving with it open at higher speeds though.

Me too, but the wife hadn't had one before so it was a sell to get it through.

Have anyone tried to put some silicone on those sunroof rails?

Yes silicone spray works for me.

Thanks. I just bought a can of silicone spray and it helped. The noise is gone.

Wondering if any of the people on this thread are still active members or following the thread (getting notifications).

I'm getting this issue on my new hatch. Keen to try Silicone spray, just not sure exactly where to spray it. Can anyone help? A photo pointing out where to spray would be good! Thanks in advance folks!

I have the problem too with my panoroof. No problems in cold weather, but rattling when you are actually using it on a hot day.

I would also like to hear in details what solutions other members have had succes with.

Mine makes a noise when it's closed.
