Vw / audi/ seat/ skoda all have the same issue with rattles from sunroof . Its the seals that dry out . Vw say to use a specialist rubber grease . Krytox . Also state to use specialist grease for tracks of roof. Not ordinary grease!!

 

Can buy it from dealers or the internet. Not cheap mind.

 

Second fix is to add felt to the frame of roof where the glass touches it under neath.

 

Google golf mk7 sunroof fixes etc / rattles.

I have lubricated the seals on my roof. Improved it a lot. But have not put fuzzy felt on frame yet so carnt report on sucess of it.

My Ex Pre FL 230 had a rattling sunroof, the frame was loose. No amount of " Special Grease " cured it.  :shake:  The only fix was to remove sunroof, fit new frame, re-fit sunroof. The sunroofs are bonded in from the Factory so I would think the Sunroof wouldn't be bonded back in to Factory Standards.

 

No problems so far with my factory sunroof after 21,200 miles. However recently activated ECO TIPS in the settings section to try and slow down SWMBO. Opened the sunroof today because it was 16.5C outside and was told off by the car with a message that flashed up between the dials saying something like "increased drag close sunroof". Not SIMPLY CLEVER but bloody annoying car telling me off.:biggrin:

Mine does, drives me crazy. You can clean and grease it but it comes back after a week or so, especially in hot dry weather. I found silicone grease best.

Skoda have just fixed my noisy sunroof under warranty. Two issues:

  • Insufficient grease on the sunroof guide rails
  • Insufficient adhesive on roof liner

Car is silent now. Bliss. Happy new year.

My 245 with a pan roof did the same and after several trips to the dealers I think its been cured. It's the pan roof flexing in the square hole that was causing the problem and all the rubbers are stone dry, there is no movement in the rubbers/seal. The problem with the pan roof is that because there's a large hole in the roof and the headlining there's bound to be a bit of flexing/creaking. When the roof is closed its a very tight fit into the square hole in the roof and there is no adjustment available as there is no room to adjust the glass section which slides and tilts.  If you open the roof fully you will see there is a rubber seal at the front and the rear and down both sides it's like a hard plastic. If you look into the frame of the sunroof there are rubbers/seals on which the pan roof sits on. They all need lubricating (on the frame ) and the front/rear and the sides of the pan roof. The dealer used a product called Krytox  Its a liquid approved  by Volkswagen and once applied it doesn't really dry and is a little sticky to the touch. It's quite expensive to buy but a little goes along way and one bottle should be good for 6 or more applications. One or two drops onto your finger should do one side of the rubbers and the sides of the sliding glass and about the same to do the rubbers on the frame which the closed roof sits on. The dealer gave me the leftover krytox so I can keep on top of it. The small bottle costs around £45.  The dealer recommended it's done ever three months or so to keep on top of it. Should be covered by the warranty The dealer actually removed the glass and gave the rubbers/seals a going over with the lubricant.  The glass (slide/tilt bit ) is fixed into place by six small screws and removed from inside the car.
