Goodwood Festival of Speed

Featured Replies

Have always considered it too much money to go however my parents bought me and the wife tickets as a wedding present.

Anybody been?

Any experiences?

Any advice?

Absolutely brilliant event!!

Great exhibits, well organised, you can get really up close to the cars and, for the most part, drivers really go for it on the track.

My only complaint is that it's in the wrong place - it's a pain to get to!

You'll have a great time, especially if the weather's good.

I went last year, and to be honest I think it's a bit overrated and over priced. There are some very interesting cars to see but It's too expensive, too crowded and it's not a proper race track so the cars are never get up to really high speeds. It is worth forking out for a grandstand seat to watch the hill climb. You'll get a much better view.

Unless you pay for a Helicopter transfer into the event (£££), be prepared for traffic into and out of the event to be busy...........it's particularly bad getting out of the car parks at the end of the event.

I would probably go again if someone gave me free tickets, so have fun!

Me and my brother go every year and it's amazing!

One tip is to set off early, get to 10am and the last couple of miles have been known to take 3 hours, literally. :(

My only complaint is that it's in the wrong place - it's a pain to get to!

I don't know what you mean? It's literally a 20 minute drive. ;)

Wouldn't it be a bit odd if the "Goodwood Festivel of Speed" wasn't in Goodwood?? :D

No doubt a great day.

I like to trundle over to my local, Wilton House Classic and Supercar day in August -hopefully some good weather.

Enjoy your wedding gift and congratulations!

been to moving motorshow last year and goin to fos this year should be really good

It is a good day, last time I went was in 2003 I think.

I think over the years though it has become very popular and as a result very overcrowded (in places). I would desperately love to take the boys but think it will be difficult for them to get to see everything unless of course you book grandstand seating.

Thanks Gents

My parents went all out so we've got grandstand seats and a helicopter ride on site.

I've always considered it too expensive and too busy (the crowds (of chavs) was one of the reasons we stopped going to BTCC) to book it myself but I am looking forward too it.

Although apparently I'm going to have to content myself with cars while the new Mrs Pasty heads off to hunt down and most likely kidnap and "make use of" Jenson Button.

We're staying in Southampton city centre (cos it was the closest hotel we could book!)

Google maps says 45 minutes to get there, so I'm leaving at least double that :)

Is it worth getting there when the gates open at 6am?

Is a packed lunch advisable or is the onsite food decently priced and not an £8 Wembley hotdog situation?

You lucky pastry based snack!

I have nothing constructive to say, bar if mrs pasty finds Jenson then tell her to drop Jessica off to me.  :D

Thanks Gents

which day are you going

Great day out but it can be pricey, they tried to charge me £5 for a bacon sarnie I told them to shove it  obviously. In my opinion they are trying to keep it out of reach for a lot of people, but if you got tickets you will have a great day.As above, get there early.

Fancy a pint in Soton, Cliff?

Wow is that a helicopter transfer into the site or a ride when you get there?..........If it is a transfer as long as it is departing 5 miles or more from the venue you can just rock up to the chopper whenever you like as traffic will not be an issue at all!

It's a petrol heads paradise and well worth a visit I've been the last three years on the bounce, I'm having a year off this year due to family commitments.

It's worth every penny you pay, you won't be disappointed. Enjoy!!

Wish I was going, but I've got a bloody wedding to go to!!! :(

I have always wanted to go.

I've been the last 2 years running thanks to free tickets from Skoda. My advice would be to get there early as the crowds are nuts. There's loads to see and you'll do a fair bit of walking. I loved the first year but the second not so much. The crowds did start to annoy me as it's getting a bit too popular now. I think if I go every other year it will be fine.

Been to the revival, best weekend ever !

Friday and Saturday

To be honest i may just need to stop being so tight.

I mean i didn't pay go the tickets so a few quid on food isn't a straw that'll break the camels back.

To be honest we'll probably packed luck it on the Friday and buy summin on the Saturday

Could do Lee.

Not sure where we're staying (also booked and paid for by the parents) but will be in touch nearer the time

It a "Helicopter Pleasure Flight" which takes off from the Aviation Exhibition. So assume it's a take you up, show you the grounds/circuit/crowrds/exhibiton/hill and come back down again.

and given I've not paid it should be even better! :D

Thanks Mart. Everyone i've spoken to says get there early. Apparently a colleague of Mrs Pasty aimed to "avoid the early rush" and aimed to get in around 10am, sat in 3 hours of queues and didn't get in until around half 1!

There's a huge Sainsburys 2 minutes from the gates - I was at Goodwood last weekend roller skating, and we stocked up on the way in.

Catering - you're looking at 4 and a half quid for a bacon roll - not bad if you're only buying one, but with SWMBO and the kids, with some drinks you're looking at little change from £30. And that's on a non FOS day...

Despite living literally down the road, never been to either FOS or Revival, we will go one year!!

I don't know what you mean? It's literally a 20 minute drive. ;)

So what you mean is actually you're a minute away, but on festival day it takes you 20 minutes  ;)

Road access isn't one of the events strong points, but I'd still recommend going.

Festival day we don't go out...

I live a 20 minute drive away (on a good run late at night 15 minutes...) - I just can't justify £90+ quid per ticket.

I really enjoyed the moving motor show last year, which was the Thursday. Still a lot of snobbery and elitism though, so I'd imagine it will be worse when the motoring personalities make an appearance.

The 2 skoda stands were brilliant though
