1.6 cr tdi monte

Neither of the above

1.6 cr tdi monte

Neither of the above

I'm with Big Jase maybe a remap on the 1.6 TDI CR (a proper vRS like Brimmas)

Thats very impressive you wouldn't tell the difference between the both nice ill be looking at a tdi 105

How about an ibiza 2.0 cr tdi 140 fr

Really nice looking car and not too pricey. Maybe pick up a year or 2 old one?

I'm with Big Jase maybe a remap on the 1.6 TDI CR (a proper vRS like Brimmas)

Easy now!

As much as I like Brimma's Fabia (A heck of a lot!!)

A proper VRS is one that's come from the factory as one.

Everything else I agree with.....

1.6 TDI Monte with a remap all the way.

105 ;)

..and re-mapped, it'll go up higher than a standard mk1 vRS too!  :sun:

No brainer, all day long

big jase it didnt cross my mind but its on my list what a good looking car and how much will a remap set you back

Remap £300-500

The fr tdi 2.0l ibiza is 140bhp standard anyhoo

But a cr tdi is completely the wrong engine to buy unless you cover enough miles each year to justify it.

Nobody wants to see the dpf light come on.

My mother in law bought a cr tdi

She has done 9k in 2 1/2 years. No dpf light.

It gets a decent run when she uses it so i see no issue. Start and stop granny wagon that goes a mile to the shops and back yes. But its the type of driving you do. Not just how many you do a week!

You could drive 200miles in one go once a month if you get me

Yes i am aware of that.

Iv explained it a million times on here haha.

It depends what the motors being used for and what the op wants from it

The 1.2tsi driven sensibly will average 45-50mpg in my experience and the 1.6 diesel 105 around 60-65mpg.

So with it's quieter operation, smoother running and lighter front end meaning better handling I'd personally go for the 1.2tsi... unless the miles you do means fuel consumption is a big part of the decision making.

In which case the 1.6 diesel is the default choice.

Isn't the vRS engine a dog in the fabia?

Depends who you ask.... But the mk2 vrs engine is largely known as a lemon, yeah.

Of course, theres good and bad ones about though (:

Isn't the vRS engine a dog in the fabia?

It's not a dog, it just has a bad reputation for reliability.

All engines have some failures, but it's too high on the 1.4twincharge IMO.

You will always get some good ones too.

But the risk is too high for me, I'd not get one without warranty.

Otherwise I'd be always checking it, which kills the fun of owning a car waiting for it to go wrong.

I went to have a test drive in the 1.2 tsi and 1.6 tdi and i loved them both but me doing about 7000 a year i went for the tsi which is the one i dont look back on the 45mpg is good enough for me but the vrs is riddled with problems looking at it.

The Monte Carlo TDI is the car the mkII vRS should have been....

The Monte Carlo TDI is the car the mkII vRS should have been....

I vaguely remember this being discussed with gusto at its launch.

Why oh why didn't they?

Considering just how popular the mk1 was, this will end up being one of motoring history's  greatest unanswered mystery's  for eternity.

The VRS should have had a 2.0 TDI lump as an option. The 1.6 even with a remap isn't worthy of the VRS badge. IMO!!

The 1.4 TSI is a brilliant engine if you get a good one......
