Pollen Filter Frame

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I am trying to replace the pollen filter on my mk1 Skoda Fabia (whilst I also replace the motor which is faulty, but that's a different story!).

The old filter has a black plastic frame on it which has broken. Researching online mentions that the framed filter has been replaced with a larger frameless filter. Is this true?

If so does anyone know the part number for this filter?

If the frame is still used does anyone know the part number for the filter + frame from Skoda?

Never had so much trouble trying to source a pollen filter before!  :notme:

I have heard the rumour that the frame is no longer available, but don't know whether it's true. Two minute call to any Skoda dealer should confirm/deny that one. You can find the part number yourself at www.partscats.info
I'd look it up for you myself, but it's too hard on my phone and I can't reach anything else from my hammock!

Edit: Now indoors, and it looks like 6Q0819647, item 38 http://www.partscats.info/skoda/en/?i=cat_vag_models&brand=sk&number=42&set=48&ein=2005&f=453&hauptgr=1234567890&hg=8&grf=082010225&bf=82010&hgug=820&ug=20&parent_id=129497here

Not heard of a frameless filter.

Almost every Fabia Mk1, Polo 9n, and presumably some Seat something-or-other that have made their last journey to a scrap yard will have a frame that could be re-used...

I needed some pollen filter parts for my Fabia a while ago. I looked at Skoda Parts but the website didn't list what I wanted. They saw a post I put on here, and were able to get the part. Excellent service - if they don't have it, no harm in asking if they have it or can get hold of it :)

using the search function above(!) suggests the part number for the pollen filter frame is 6Q0 819 647.

I think they are hard to find new ... but as above Ebay, your local scrappy, or even here http://www.skospares.com/ should be able to help.

I happened to post for future reference the other day this thread

http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/317869-pollen-filter-cabin-filter-ebay-fits-perfectly-for-mk-1-fabia/

I found this filter fits perfectly in the frame.

Loads of threads on here about how to replace the filter properly

make sure you put the frame with the filter in it back in the way it came out, make a note of it, because it only goes in 'the right way'.

and make a note of how the old filter fitted into the frame (it's a bit fiddly and you'll wonder if you're doing it right / are going to break it if you don't.)

Make sure direction of  airflow arrows on filter point towards centre console)

Plenty of fabias been broken in the for sale section, that's always my first stop if I need anything

That was very helpful Wino

When I went to replace the pollen filter on my Fabia, it was missing - no filter or frame. The replacement Mann filter I bought came with an installation guide though and it didn't mention anything about a frame, so you mentioned, maybe a new filter won't need one?

Got a link to what you bought?

If i can just jump in here again:

I THINK - (and someone might wish to correct me)

Early Mk 1 Fabia's had a 'filter and frame' arrangement

Later Mk 1 Fabia's dispensed with the frame arrangement (supposedly saved enough few pence, parts list, moments on the production line etc - and its a fiddly ****** thing) in favour of a standalone filter that just slots in on its own.  (This is the arrangement on the Mk2 fabia - i think)  This filter is 'bigger' and fills the void without the need for a frame.

However - if you've a Mk1 Fabia and for example you've broken / lost the frame - you can't just dispense with it and try and stick the new 'without frame' style filter into yoru Mk 1 fabia - doesn;t fit right, because the dimensions of 'old filter + frame' and 'new filter without frame' are different.

I can get a frame from a W reg car I am breaking up for parts. :)

Great work teutonic!

So looking at later cars on that same partscats.info site, Mk2 Fabias originally had the same part numbers as Mk1s for both the normal and carbon versions of the filter, so did need the frame.

On 5th July 2010 they went to frameless filters (part numbers same except starting with 6R0 instead of 6Q0, and losing the B suffix).

Because the orifice is the same that the assembly fits into on Mk1 and Mk2 cars, these late-Mk2 style frameless ones will also fit a Mk1 if the frame is missing/removed, by the looks of it.

Edit: or are we saying that the orifice did change on the late mk2s? I'm confused again now. :giggle: Edit2, nah, surely not.

Forgot to say, my Fabia's a 2003 (AZL).

To add to the confusion...

Just noticed here that on the same day in 2010 that the filter part numbers changed, the cover part number also changed - that's the bit that goes underneath the filter, held in place by the two slide clips.

Does this suggest that for optimal fitment of the frameless filter into any Fabia, you ditch the frame, and put this alternative cover on? I wonder how different the new cover is? Guess we could ask someone with a recent (say 2011 onward) Mk2 to take a pic or two?   Anyone also frequent the Mk2 sub-forum?

Edit: for those who don't want to click links, here's a summary of part numbers as far as I can see:

Frame should it be wanted/needed - 6Q0819647

Standard filter for use with frame -                     6Q0 820 367B

Carbon 'odour eating' filter for use with frame - 6Q0 819 653B

Frameless standard filter - 6R0 820 367

Carbon frameless filter -  6R0 819 653

Old-style cover that goes beneath framed filter 6Q0819422B

New cover for use with 6R0 filters 6R2819422 on rhd cars (6R1819422 for lhd vehicles)

Hopefully this helps a little, but until we know what the cover change was/is, it's rather incomplete.

Edit: Getting some good help over on the Mk2 forum.

To anyone else with this query. I went to the dealers and they advised that the original sized pollen filter and frame are still available.

Frame - 6Q0819647 - About £5 including VAT

Pollen Filter - 6Q0820367B - About £17 including VAT

Thanks for you help everyone!

Do NOT buy the filter from Euro Car parts. I made this mistake and it took me forever to try put the filter into the plastic casing, it were slightly too big. Went to my local Skoda dealer to buy one and it fit straight away! :)
