Roomster 2008 Auto gearboxes

Featured Replies

Hello all,

I'm looking into buying a 2008 vintage Roomster for my expecting wife and our 3 beasties (dogs).

I'm having some issues researching gearboxes/ fuel economy.

Unfortunately wher I live diesels and stick-shifts/ manuals are not avaiable, so I'm reduced to Auto boxes. I'm trying to find out if SKoda offered a standard 4 speed auto box, as well as the tiptronic 6 speed and DSG models?

I can't find anything about a 4 speed online, but people here tell me about it - and its obviously less efficient than the tiptronic.

So does anyone know if skoda did offer a standard 4-speed auto?

Thanks,

Mat

I don't think they did.

It's either the tiptronic on the older models (only available with the 1.6 16v) or later the DSG (1.2 TSI).

That's the nub of it.

Tiptronic is a 6-speed traditional auto with hydraulic torque converter and 'lock up' on upper gears i.e. its the same as the 4-speed the OP is thinking of.

Newer models have DSG.

Hi Briskodian, Phil,

Thanks for the prompt answers.

Briskodian - sorry for being a divot... the 6 speed with "lock up" is the same as the 4 speed? (plus neutral and reverse)? Or is the "lock up' a kind of fancy rnage extender on upper gears?

I think he means it's the same in the way it works.

The 6 speed tiptronic has 6 forward gears and can lock the torque converter to aid fuel economy.

Hi Mat and welcome to Briskoda.

I have the brochure for the 2009 Roomster range.

Fuel consumption for the 1.6 petrol is as follows (manual/tiptronic):

Urban - 30.7/27.2

Extra Urban - 49.6/45.6

Combined - 40.4/36.7

Hope this helps
