The Yeti took a hit from behind.

Featured Replies

Had a very similar accident about a year ago in the previous Yeti. Driver accelerated out of a roundabout without noticing the 30 cars vans and artics queued up for a set of temporary traffic lights. Battered the rear end (actually went underneath so check the suspension/exhaust) and shoved me into the rear of the van in front. Was a pain in the neck (literally) but managed to get it sorted out in the end.

I certainly was glad I was driving the Yeti as it coped with fairly little damage while his car was a total write off.

Looks like a bad smash. Glad the wifes ok, is she the horse rider to? Noticed the boots and crop in boot, my daughters have lessons every Sunday, and our Yeti's boot has helmets and body protectors hanging off the handy boot hooks.

thanks and yes, she's got a horse, there every day riding etc.

we've been told that at first inspection, the damage is ~£1700 but could be more once they start taking bits off :(

Winchester Skoda aren't much cop, turns out their body shop can't do the work and keep the cars warranty as they aren't accredited :wonder:

Her employers have been in touch as it was a company car insured by Aviva. The iPad she took the photos with is company property so she'll be asked to hand it over to get the pics off and the company will forward them on. We'll see.

You're having a laugh Mr Lee? Skoda in Winchester did my repair for me and all my documents and invoices etc state they are a genuine repairer and accredited bodyshop for Skoda and VW?

To be fair I did get my repair done at "mates rates" so I didn't get all the official paperwork and insurance gubbins though.

Oh and mine wasn't quite as bad as the damage to Yeti :(

Commiserations and hope your wife is OK and the Yeti is soon mobile and back to prime condition.

I had a bad experience recently with insurance companies which you might want to be aware of.

My wife parked her car (not a Skoda!) in a disabled parking space with her blue badge showing and we went shopping. When we returned we found an note on the windscreen and a dent in the side of the car. The note was very apologetic and accepted all liability and gave full details of the offending driver. My wife contacted her insurance company and gave these details and they proceeded with the repair and claimed from the other insurance company. She received notification that her NCD would not be affected and they had recovered all costs.

We thought that was the end of the matter until I went to renew MY car insurance (different company).

We are both declared as additional drivers on each others policies and all went well with my  online renewal until it came to the part that asks for any claim details at which it stopped and referred me to the telephone. When I phoned I was told that her claim meant that they wouldn't honour the quoted premium. I pointed that it was a no blame claim and all costs had been recovered but that made no difference, the details were apparently on a database that insurers use and as a result she was considered to be "at risk".

I asked how an accident that happened when we weren't even in attendance and was accepted as the other drivers fault could result in her being an increased risk. All I kept being told was that as it was on the database that increased the risk!

The end result was that I got charged an increased premium. At one stage I was even told that I had not declared a previous claim on my car which turned out to be a windscreen chip repair!

I hope this doesn't happen to you but be aware that it's a possibility.

Car insurance companies are no longer on my Christmas Card List.

Fred

Based on experience time to book an appointment with the doctor. Could be a lot more painful by Friday.

I don't think they'll pay out when they find out your missus slapped you, stamped on your feet, punched you and made you sleep on the sofa

er, anyway, back to the topic; It seems that the woman at fault has admitted liability (insured with Aviva via her company) and they are happy to cough up so, the car's booked in to be repaired at Harwoods in Totton. Apparently they are the UK VW approved repairers for the area and once sorted any outstanding warranty will be honoured

Cheers, Andy. It'll be in for about ten days in total. I've ordered a fine tooth comb for when it's ready :)

How's the wife?

That's good. I ended up with whiplash and a frozen shoulder. I couldn't lift my left arm past horizontal for three months and even now I don't have full range of movement. Took a whole year for my neck to get better.

the Yeti's in Harwoods in Totton, estimated time for work, 10 working days. Bets on it'll be done in ten working days? :wonder:

Think England have better hopes of getting out the group stages!

It's gonna be a long ten days Lee - courtesy car?

She's not bothered yeti (see what I did there :notme: ) I dropped her off at Heathrow after dropping it off, she's not back until friday so we'll hire one then and claim it back from Aviva (they said go ahead). Should have hired one and left it on the drive IMO.

Forgot to update this :D Yeti's been repaired but a few issues :wonder:

They 'forgot' to replace the wheel arch liner although it was paid for and the rear diffuser was the wrong one without the removable cap for the tow bar.

It went back to Harwoods today as the correct parts had arrived but, the wrong diffuser, again lol

SWMBO is currently pottering about in a poverty spec MkII Fabia discourtesy car, 1.2 and gutless.

Pics to follow,,,,,,,,

So glad that I had the extra cost item on my insurance for a similar car (ended up with a RR Evoque for a fortnight). Cost a few quid a month but worth it as I was going away at the time of the bump and needed the extra space for luggage (no way would it have fitted in the "standard" replacement ie a corsa or similar)!
