Thanks to crap weather, trips to Spain, Belgium, France, The Lakes, Robin Hoods Bay, I never really got around to working on MY car

(2010 Octavia vRS CR 170)

So, as its a nice day..I set to at 8.30am

No polishing required so cracked on with a 'Summer wax' Detail

1. Pre rinse...I prefer this as it activates the Snow Foam better IMO

2. Snow Foam 'Valet Pro pH Neutral SF' ..1" in 1 litre of water..left to dwell for 5 minutes)

3. Wheels and door shuts washed with a detailing brush and 'Wheel Woolies'

4. Rinsed off

5. Washed with 'Meguiars Gold Class Car shampoo' via a 'Dooka Wash Pad' and the TBM & Grit Guard

6.Rinsed off

7. Snow Foam applied again and car clayed via a 'Farecla Clay Mitt'

8. Rinsed off

9. Car dried with a 'CG Wooly Mammoth' Drying Towel and my 'Pet Blaster' High velocity air blower

10. All glass then cleaned with 'Meguiars Crystal Clear' Glass cleaner

11. Exterior glass polished with 'AG Glass polish' and cleansed with IPA prior to...

12. Glass sealed with 'CarPro Quartz FlyBy 30' Glass sealer/rain repellant

13. Car applied with one very thin coat of 'Hybrid 86 Obsession Wax' in Grey and Whisky fragrance!!) via wax applicator pad

14. Buffed off with 'Eurow' Blue extra plush MF Cloth

15. Paintwork finished with 'Wet Glaze 2.0' Gloss enhancer (Forgot I had this..adds alovely slick feel and a bright shine to the paintwork)

NOTE: I dont think this is available any longer..Shame ...Its amazing stuff!!

16. Wheels finished with 'Sonax Brilliant Shine Detailer'.....already sealed with 'Carbon Collective Platinum Ceramic Sealer'

17. Tyres finished with 'Meguiars Hot Rims Tyre Shine'

18. Interior and mats vacced and all plastics and foot pedals wiped with a damp cloth

19. Door shuts finished with 'Sonax BSD'

20. Tailpipes cleaned with 'Autosol' Metal Polish

20. Engine Bay...Another Day!!

Wish mine was as clean as that !

Fabulous job, Chris and much for us `mere mortals` to learn from that list.

Regards

Mike.

Apart from me showing off.....

The whole idea of doing these write ups is showing others what can be achieved and with what products

Thanks Mike

Interesting to see someone else's routine in so much detail.

The only bit that confuses me is:

10. All glass then cleaned with 'Meguiars Crystal Clear' Glass cleaner

11. Exterior glass polished with 'AG Glass polish' and cleansed with IPA prior to...

12. Glass sealed with 'CarPro Quartz FlyBy 30' Glass sealer/rain repellent

I'm curious to know why you cleanse with IPA after using a cleaner and a polish? My understanding of glass cleaners is probably flawed, but I thought that IPA alone was strong enough to cut through the traffic film and grime left on glass, removing the need for pre-treating with other cleaners?

I needed to be sure that the screen was completely clean so that the 'flyby30' would properly adhere

........Residues of polish and 'Gtechnik G5'

Possibly a little OTT but I wanted to be sure....and I use dilution of 50:50 IPA

If in doubt ........and all that

Wow, it looks like a lot of hard work from you're write up Chris, but who can argue with the results. Love the depth in that shine.

I find it hard to believe that car was ever dirty Chris.

As usual top job!

5 hours with a short break for a 'Ryveta' and a coffee....so not so bad

To me it was..LOL...main reason was to apply the new wax from Mark

You mean the hybrid 86?

I used some this aft on the bonnet just to give it a try. It leaves a lovely slick finish with a lot of flake pop on the musky.

Amys decided she wants to keep my yeti Chris so, her mazda 2 will be for sale really soon.

Yes...It wasn't the easiest to buff off

I tried immediate buffing, but decided that a good 10 mins was best...So did the whole car first and then buffed it off

A two Yeti Family!!.......... is that a School or a Gaggle of Yetis?

Yes it was a doddle to buff. Quite pleasant to use.

I'm not sure what it is Chris but a pride sounds better :)

Top draw as usual. Why are you so far away...... As a Q was there a reason why you didn't ironx and tardis Chris? Also...... where did you get your ceramic wheel sealer from? I've seen it on ebay but am always wary of buying certain stuff of there.

Cheers

Ade... (still keen on making 'the trip ooop north')

Thanks Ade

No iron in evidence...Not much sticks to my wheels and there was only a couple of small tar spots on the lower part of the car, which the Clay Mitt saw off

The joy of having a well protected car is that not much sticks to it

The sealant is 'Carbon Collective Ceramic Platinum Wheel Sealer' from Bears Wax factory:

Come on Chris it's worth at least Pie and Chips

I'm trying the 5:2 Diet...on Tuesdays and Thursdays ...slightly successfully. Lost a few pounds

Great job Chris, looks spot on!

I've used FlyBy30 before, didn't last very long. Cleaned glass with APC (to remove bugs) and Carchem Clarity, then poliahed with Ceriglass then Eraser wipedown (as per instructions from Carpro) then applied FlyBy30. Did you leave it for 12 hours to cure?

Car looks fantastic! Question for you, was the carbon collective wheel sealant difficult to apply? The instructions on the site seem quite involved.

Its all I had due to my Gtechnik G5 running out...Its not that good but wanted to use it up. Yes it wont get wet in the next 24 hours ..so should help for a while

Thanks

Very easy but you have to lightly wipe it after a couple of minutes...after that it goes rock hard..like glass

The make up pad I applied it with went solid!!

Wish mine was as clean as that !

Me too!  :envy:

Gaz

Great job Chris.....looks brilliant

Looks excellent, but we would expect no less from you ;)

Love the colour ... pity they don't do that still, the new metal grey doesn't look as good IMO.

"Another day...another"...........this time a promised Curry rather than a Dollar!!

Colleagues Dad's Octavia L & K...not good ...but he is 87!!

Was a quite a state to say the least..clearly only washed annually, a few scratches/scuffs but few swirls...filthy inside too

Wheels needed a lot of work...Took 3 hours just to get the car clean

Thank goodness Alan turned up to use the DA on the bodywork while I worked on the few scratches

He also did a great job with the Autosol on the scuffed L&K kick plates!!

Anyway...I wont bore you with ALL the details but it did come up well...Inside and Out

Sealed with Poorboy's EX-P Sealer and Sonax BSD on the body after ....and the wheels
