Email your support guys at your ISP and let them know - they may be able to help... otherwise set up a rule to delete them as you receive them?

Spam Cop?

Spam Assassin?

Mail Washer?

Just a few of the things I've seen people here use.

Though I find some of the spam vaguely amusing (albeit rather useless to me  )

Still, it gives the appearance I'm popular....."oooooh, 30 new e-mails".... :D

I have clicked on a load and got them to go to the spam box it's slowed down a bit now......my isp wont do anything as it is a catch all account if I just had one or two addresses they could filter it out but I like being able to use different addresses for different things on the website i.e. info@ or contact@

trouble with mine was it was all returned/undeliverable mail someone put my email address down as the sender so I got all return mail....slowed down a bit now though only 19 in the last 3 hours

Would you not say that was indicitive of spyware or malware of some sort sending mail from your domain?

Not necessarily ... probably just random selection of a false "from" address and no reason why it should be an individual attack on the OP per se.

It's happened to me when people who are my contacts have had viruses, and their PCs have sent out e-mails with my "from" address. In fact, it's far more likely that it isn't anything the OP has contracted ... as he could actually do something about it then. Better to use someone else's address so he just gets the flak.

I always wondered why I needed bigger boobs, some of the spam is quite funny although those levels seem rather irritating :(

I would as some else suggested set up a rule and they will never bother you again, also if you have an IMAP account use that as you never download the message to your computer you view them off the email server {iirc} and could setup a rule from there.

Good luck with solving the problem.

Contact the real site owner (of the IP address from which the e-mails come) using a site like this: http://www.ripe.net/whois?form_type=simple&full_query_string=&searchtext=134.176.2.3&do_search=Search to provide the e-mail contact addresses - either one of the administrators shown or abuse@... instead. If they are reputable (and this one is a university, so it should be) then they will do something about the user responsible or at least tighten up their own security.

I had this problem for about 6 months. I was getting upto 6,000 emails per week and even with mailwasher was spending a lot of time ploughing through them all trying to find the 1 or 2 legit emails to myself (I came back from a 10 day holiday on one occasion to 11,000 emails).

Someone was using my domain name to send 1,000's of emails and I was getting all sorts back.

I spoke to my isp about it which is claranet (I should have done it a lot sooner) and they said they can add a spam filter to my account which they did. It's now been a couple of months and the spam messages are down to a more normal level of perhaps 30, sometimes less per day which I use mailwasher to deal with.

Mailwasher pro is a great program, in times of high alert, if new virus are around I just read my mail on the server and leave it there for some time while I make sure all my virus programs etc are upto date with the latest definitions. It has great filtering for both 'spam' and 'friends' too.

In fact i've not downloaded my email to my computer for a month and have about 200 messages still on the server. Not that practical but with broadband not that unpractical either.

The problem is worse if you have a domain name that as you say, catches all names @yourdomain which is what I have also and why my problem was so much worse than what it would have been at a one name account.

I also use Mailwasher Pro as I get 100s of mails a day, 95%+ of which are junk. It's a very good bit of software and learns very effectively which mail is good and which is bad. Soundly recommended if other approaches don't get around your problem.
