There was only minor changes anyway. It was hardly a brand new platform.

The only angle I don't like my Mk2 from is square on sideways.

Right now I like the side of the Mk3 more but I'm not keen on the back.

As others have said colour can make a big difference.

No vRS for the Fabia Mk 3, sadly.

I agree that the least pleasing aspect of the Mk 2 is square on sideways. I've always liked the front, back and front three-quarter aspects though. The 'on stilts' look has always been a negative for the Mk 2, but makes it a very easy car to get in and out of!

I really like the look of the white one, paint colour and wheels make any car look radically different so it will be interesting to see which wheel choices are available when it launches.

They dont have big Turbos , just a Turbo,  but they could have a Small Turbo and a bigger one.

 

Audi are going Electric Superchargers on Diesels, and that will be the future of Superchargers on Petrols.

 

The VOLVO Chief is the ex VW USA CEO  (Volvo being Chinese owned)

& Volvo are going with Twinchargers,  but then the Patents will be out with VW.

 

So much in comon with them all,  Ford Ecoboost, VW Twincharging, Volvo Twincharging.

 

Its just about Small Capacity engines with Direct Injection or what ever & get rid of the heat,

and BMW are going 500 cc Per Cylinder.

I didn't think there would be a patent on twin charging as it's been in existence for 30+ years with lancia with the delta s4 and nissan with the march superturbo

I doubt the Patent Pending was on the fact it has a Turbo & Superchargers, it may be on some other unique aspect,

or as you say no Patent.

I have no idea,

but if there was or is, it may be like the ones from the past in the usage you mention, ready to or already Expired.

Or like Tesla has spoken about with EV's the patents were given up and no longer protected.

The Term Twincharging & Twin Turbos seems to be covering Induction & Forced Induction differently already,

& lost in Translation as Electric Superchargers & Turbo Chargers come in & the Technology moves on.

'Ecoboost' seems to have a meaning in whatever application Ford want to use it.

 

I have seen German Sites & Spanish SEAT Sites where the 1.4 TSI Twin Charger / Dual Charger is described as Dual Turbo

Maybe just again lost in Translation.

The new car seems to represent evolution, rather than revolution.  I like the idea of it staying a bit taller, we don't all like to go around with our bums dragging along the road, some of us like to see where we are going.  So far as the looks go, I liked the Mk 1 but have never been that happy with the Mk 2.  To me this has something of an updated Mk 1 about it, it looks quite promising.  I suspect that when all is revealed the rear lights will be our normal 'C' shape without the stuck on bit on the boot lid.

 

Now it they would do a version with the 1.9 SDi engine..........  it may not have had a lot of power, but you didn't have to do much gear changing.  (Yes, I do know that it can't happen).  With the mileage I do, it has to be a diesel though, preferably with a bit of low down torque.

 

Would I have one?  it depends what the rear legroom is like.  I got the Roomster primarily for that reason and have been seduced by its practicality.  I quite like the Rapid Spaceback, but it has less room and the low roofline feels quite claustrophobic (the current craze for having funeral coloured interiors doesn't help in that respect) though a glass roof could help.

 

It's a definite perhaps from me, so long as it can carry a full sized spare.

Seriously, these low BHP cars need KERS like electrical assistance just to make them viable for local trunk roads. Imagine trying to take-off into a busy roundabout, let alone the Bank Holiday trip to the coast. Having previously driven an old VW Golf 1.1 for 17 years, I can saywith assurance that I spent most of the time wringing the neck of the engine to keep with other cars with the consequent effect on M.P.G.
