Actual real pictures of an undisguised fabia III

still cant believe its not the MQB platform, just an updated version of the current car :(

Me neither.

They must have known the platform was coming and choosing not to wait a bit makes no sense at all IMO.

It almost like they wanted to make a car that wouldn't be quite as good as it's Polo and Ibiza relatives, but could be sold cheaper.

VW product planning maybe?

  • LOL How nothing changes.   My very much tongue in cheek analysis of the Briskoda life cycle of a new Skoda model.   1.  Rumours of the new model are leaked.  Excitement - has anybody seen the pict

  • Sharkrider, hope you feel better soon.   Well that car is a bit of a 'Munter' IMO. Not 'Squat & Emotional', like the CEO of Skoda said, just looks a bit **** and would bring a tear to a glass

  • Mk1 vRS still reigns supreme in the looks department! Or maybe I'm just biased

maybe... also backs up the no vRS theory :( basically, you can be sure, it wont ride/handle as well as the polo or ibiza... I cant understand, its almost as if they want to turn skoda into the "dacia of renault" if they did that, they would loose a shed load of customers...

The thing is, if this is the 4th Evolution of this Platform.  there are no possible excuses.

The Ride & Handling,

Steering, Braking & Suspension should be First Class, 100 % sorted, Tried & Tested with many many of the Previous Models tested World Wide.

Millions of Fabias on the roads since 1999.

So 15 years to get to the Pinnacle of SKODA CZ's Design & Manufacturing excellence.

So they save on the Platform and spend on components. All the best old and tried & proven VWG Parts to chose from.

They upgraded the Platform for the S1 & AWD, & put on Good Suspension.

They have just Facelifted the Polo 2014.

So Skoda as part of the VWG know what a car from 2015 needs to have a 7 year production run.

This will surely be SKODA's most Reliable car ever built, the longest tested & evolving model ever in their History,

All that Motorsport Heritage, Rally Inspired  etc,

to Appeal to the Young etc etc.

Great Value for Money, & perfect from the First Models being Sold to the Public.

If not, then why,??

Would it be because Volkswagen Sabotage Skoda Models.

You can not have the Skoda outsell the VW Polo.

how long were they putting voided console bushes in the mark I ?! my arguments with them with their refusal to do mine under warrenty with them saying wear and tear (35k) and me saying design fault, look at seat , well... thats what made me leave skoda for a fiat grande punto! (who's suspension never needed touching over 115k by the way!)

Then guess what! as a PROVED design fault, they replaced with solid bushes!

*rant over...

in principle, i agree, but I doubt this is their breif. "it will be reliable" I bet the new ibiza will too..... the same things learned can be applied....... their brief was "make it as cheap as you can"

'Nail on the Head.'

That's a bit harsh, the mk2 is more of a shopping car for the elderly than an abomination.

;)

First of all I am not that old (same age as you in fact) and secondly it is bloody fast for a shopping trolley  :D

Wow, did not know that... that's really weird, unless they are planning to move it to MQB within the next two years so have a 3-year stop gap "new" model, or FL one for that matter.

Once it's missed the latest chassis by months it'll be stuck on the old one for the mk3 cycle of around 7 years IMO.

That would be shame if true.

If I understand correctly (please correct me if not) the MQB system the cross platform parts utilised in different VAG models are not interchangeable with previous platforms. So, if they want to keep the old platforms going they will need to keep the old parts going as well and in my opinion it would make sense to phase them out ASAP and only keep a model or two on old platform for a short time needed to get rid of the stock and ease in the production of MQB systems. Hence me thinking MK3 could be a short run only. Then MK4 would be introduced on MQB platform, which by then would have been refined to get early gremlins out of the way. Having said that they had years to sort twinchargers out and the saga is still ongoing :D.

Obviously I might be completely wrong and VAG has different policy altogether  :dull:

It hasn't missed it by months. The Polo has only just been facelifted so there won't be a new one for 2.5 years at least I would have thought. This would have been too long to wait for a replacement for the current Fabia which is really showing it's age now.

Quite happy the Fabia III is not an MQB platform; I'm finding its not all it's cracked up to be. For me anyway the Octy III in RHD form appears  to have the foot pedals pushed too far to the right. Golf is a little better, plus VW have made space for a right footrest at least and the SE seats are a little softer without the hard edge bolsters in the Octy.

Thinking seriously of chopping in the Octy III for another Fabia II, as our Monte is far more comfy to drive than the Octy III SE.

TP

I had exactly the same impressions from when I had Octy III estate for a day test drive. It was simply horrible!

Saloon version was much better.

I suppose the 4x4 and manual box did not help with estate but still, will not be buying it any time soon :).

Now trying Superb....

The only thing about MK2 Fabia in my vRS guise which is wrong for longer trips is the noise levels, waay to high to be a relaxing long distance drive. It just makes you much more tired than it should. I went to Nurburgring and back in 48 hours and I found myself surprisingly more tired that I was expecting really.

I actually quite like the look of that Mk3 – I think it’ll be a grower and probably look better in the flesh than the pictures and better again in certain colours (not sure the green suits it and white certainly won’t).

It’s definitely better than the Mk2 though (IMHO) which is too tall and tippy toed and heads back towards the Mk1, being more edgy and simplistic with its surfacing.  Personally I think this is good as, in my eyes, the Mk1 has stood the test of time better than the Mk2.

The rear lights look big for the car and the front ones a touch too narrow but all in all not too bad.

Disappointing that it’s not MQB based though – provided that is correct – but then again that might be a blessing in terms of proven reliability, if not in terms of tech.

It will get the new engines anyhow, and looks like it will have some more electronic gizmos too (looks like there is a gap in the front bumper for adaptive cruise?)

Lack of a new platform will give something for journos and Briskodians to whinge about, but probably doesn't matter so much in real life. I's not like the superminis are likely to get multi-link rear suspension or anything anyway.

So it uses decade old tech and is aimed to be the cheap car in a large groups budget brand.

Ladies and gentlemen, may I present the Dacia Sandero :)

It's not decade old tech, it's a new platform (PQ26) and new engines.

Think it's time to give up on this site for good, so much negativity here the whole time :(

I think what's forgotten here is that Skoda is a budget brand so it shouldn't come as a surprise that the new Fabia won't be full of cutting edge tech or designs.

If you treat Skoda as it is then be happy with what they produce instead of moaning about it not being a Polo/Golf/Audi lookalike, if they were then they wouldn't be as cheap as they are.

I'm with RapidRonnie here, I bought my Monte coz it was cheap and better screwed together than my previous few Pugs not because I thought it was anything else.

Wait until you see it in the metal then if you don't like it then don't buy one, go and by a Polo instead which looks the same as all previous Polos and, surprise surprise, just looks like any other VW.

All manufacturers use the same basic designs so they can produce a family of cars to suit all kinds of buyers just what Skoda are presently doing.

You sat that, but you love it really. You wont go anywhere else.

Esp the audi forum. Imagine that! 'How close did you get to a bumper today?'

Would you like it better if everybody was toing a PC line and joined an orderly to pay singing from superlatives homage to the "All brand new amazing design". I think it is very good to have a mix of opinions. If there is more negative than positive, and it doesn't look like crushingly ovewhelming imbalance, then all the better.

Strange that divergent opinions can be construed as overwhelming negativity, unless your expectations were firmly set to one side of course.

I personally think it is a bit bland, dissapointed in lack of design ambition, absolutely hate that carbunkle of a rear spoiler but generally do not think it is anything else that it was meant to be as George well put it I take for what it is really without projecting my ambitions onto poor car ;).

No need to throw toys out of the pram!

Possibly because the 140 maps directly to around 170-175.

Kind of making it similar to the mk1 Fabia VRS oddly. :)

No, I suspect it was because I wrongly assumed because they made 3 and 5 door PD130 cars but the PD160 Cupra was 3- door only that they had made 3 and 5 door CR143's and the CR170 would have replaced the old PD160.

Sorry if I got anyone excited!

Well at least there won't be a VRS version.

To be honest the new Fabia is growing on me already as it starts to shed its disguise. Of course I am a little disappointed we have not seen any estate spy shots yet.

I still think it is a shame there will be no new Fabia RS. But my guess is that you will see one when it comes time for a facelift and they need to boost flagging sales.

But there is still one think that is bugging me. Is it going to use the chassis from the current Fabia or from the current Polo which is still one generation ahead. Reading about the facelift Polo, it is still running the same chassis as before but will get a major update to run the current Golf Mk7 electronics. So it would make sense to bring the Fabia in line at least with the facelifted Polo chassis wise.

Also just some interesting trivia for you from the Skoda media app?

... well-equipped models with powerful engines are most popular Down Under? For example. 40 per cent of the Octavias sold are RS models.

... Skoda sold 3,555 cars in Australia last year?
