EGR failure on quite new Yeti

Featured Replies

Well I had a good look using VCDS at my Yeti with the CFJA engine, and there appears to be no option to adjust the EGR settings.

I looked on mine too (same engine code) and couldn't see any option either.

Used to be able to do it on the PD diesels but I'd be surprised if you can on the CR engines - would like to be proved wrong though!

EGR failures are quite well documented on the Superb forum too on the CR140 and CR170 engines.

Quite a few members are simply blanking them off now rather than replacing.

Or fit a 'catch can'.

Or fit a 'catch can'.

I think blanking off or removing, the item causing the problem is a far more effective solution than adding another bit of kit to try and negate the effect of what is causing the problem in the first place. Put another way it is always best to deal with the root cause rather than the sympton.

As long as you're comfortable with that approach......I'm not.

In the end I didn't go that route either - I moved to a petrol engine!

2011, little miles, egr valve gone on it, well looked after, recent NCT and not picked up, happened over night, €650 to fix - with claim that valve is €360 - skoda dealer garage - anybody else got pricing for this?

Just to let ye know - went to a different skoda dealer who said as the milage was only at 40,000kms/25,000miles it should be part covered by skoda even though the car is 4 years old and out of warranty as it is an inherent fault in those years of model, they get this all the time, and Skoda usually cover 60-80% of the cost of the part. They paid out for most of the cost of the part - and so I'm paying €350 to get it done. The first dealer said it was our fault we had worn it out - obviously not as the mileage is more like 2 years worth of driving, never offered anything, wouldn't admit it's not right for that to go on a car that age with light use etc....

^^^so my 2012 140 also or only the 1.6 greenline has the fault?

2014 Yeti Tour de France 140 diesel 10k miles - Took my car into my local dealer yesterday as the engine warning light had activated, the handbook said it was an exhaust gas checking system fault, when booking in the dealer advised there is a recall to replace a flap in the exhaust system which they'll carry out whilst they have the car.  Following a diag test they advised the EGR needs replacing and they need the car for a further day to complete the work.  Just had another call to advise they've run into problems (sheared bolt) and they need the car for another two days!

This was one of the reasons I got rid of my diesel Yeti. Contrary to some views, from what I've read in various places, EGR valve problems appear to be fairly common.

When I had the Fiat Stilo and went on the Fiat forum this was a common problem and many blanked off/removed the EGR valves.

as with land rovers here in france

It's been common for years to either blank off or remove the EGR valve on the 200 and 300 tdi and the Freelander Td4.

On the Freelander it was simple; you just pulled off the rubber vacuum tube and blocked it with something. I did mine.
