Issue with rear bumper - above wheel arch

Featured Replies

Hello everyone,

Perhaps someone will be able to point me here in the right direction, my 2005 Octy developed an unusual rear bumper issue above the rear wheel arch. It's basically sticking out and I was wondering if there was anything I could about it? I have attached a picture for all of you to see what the issue is here.

I was wondering if I could heat it up using a hairdryer?

Thanks for your help in advance.

Looks like its been caught on something and pulled out of its mounting slightly. To get it back may well mean removing the bumper and refitting again.

Thank for your help on this looks like I will have to remove the bumper in this case, well just to slide it out and back in again I suppose.

Will give it a go on Saturday as it's suppose to be nice weather too.

Mine has done this on one side too.

Same with mine! Is it an easy job?

I just had a look at this from underneath the wheel arch and there are no clips where it should slide onto there. Has anyone else had the same issue?

There is a screw on the inside of the wheel arch holding the bumper pointy end in place. Not sure if its a fault with the bumper popping out.

I'll try and get some pictures of this with the good side for comparison, it seems the plastic is being pushed out by the metal part of the wheel arch.

You may find the plastic is cracked. The only way to sort is to use glue. I caught mine with my trousers and glued it back in. You may find taking the wheel off to get better access.

Thanks for the tip, as it sounds the plastic is not cracked however with age it deteriorates and bends outwards, rear passenger side is perfect it actually is bent inwards therefore keeps going back into it's place.

I have managed to undo the torx screw holding the corner of the bumper in place and tried to bend the plastic back in gently and it had definitely worked as it doesn't stick out too much now. I'm either going to glue it now or use a hair drier to heat up the bumper a little then hold the corner and hopefully when it cools down it will stay in it's place.

There is nothing that pops out there it's just deterioration process of the plastic.

Mine was like this and I took the bumper off to investigate, it turned out that it was cracked. I repaired by using a small drill bit to bore a couple of holes and used a small tye wrap to pull the two pieces together. Job done.

Mine did this to.  Possibly caused by the rear bumper taking a knock at some point.  Essy to fix, drilled a small hole and pop riveted into place.
