This thread: http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/266114-18tsi-and-20tsi-engine-failures/  has a few people worried that their engine might take an early bath, so let's hear from people who have a 1.8 or 2.0 TSI engine that has covered some decent mileage and is still going strong.

 

Mine has only done 24k so it's still pretty low, but there must be some high milers out there that might just reassure people that these engines don't always self detonate at 30k miles.

I almost dare not answer this, typing with fingers crossed [difficult], my 58 plate 1.8Tsi also lowish mileage coming up for 39K, at about 7K per year. So far not a thing wrong - tiny amount of oil usage, regular annual service with semi synthetic, not much else to say except that the same reliability appears to apply to all its other bits except the famous rear wiper motor - replaced a few months ago with (I hope) the new version. So far, so good.

 

(Oh and the equally famous wing mirror glasses loosening up, which I glued back, no trouble since.)

My Sep 2009 Tsi vRS on 42k. Remapped almost from new. No issues at all.

Over 40,000 miles but it is running over 100% more power and torque than the factory ever intended... Bulletproof reliability since new. :)

1.8tsi, 60k miles.

 

Fuel economy is much better than from new nowadays. :)

ok, so my first vrs (2010) needed a new engine but my new vRS has done 50k miles in 18 months without any issues.

My 1.8 tsi on a 60 plate 62400 and going strong

1.8TSi CDAA engine here and never missed a beat.  Oil changed twice a year on long life fully synthetic oil 504.00, but that's just me being over cautious (25k miles FDSH and I supply my own oil)

My car as in signature. April 2011 registered (11 plate) and has covered just over 52k miles. All is well.

2010vrs with 59k mile and remapped. Hopefully I've not jinxed it by posting this lol!

Hope i never look back at this with an engine failure!

Mine was October 2011 reg - mot due this year, where did that come from?!

Purchased pre reg with 13 miles on clock.

Used 1 litre of oil from new.

22k, recent stage 1 revo remap. On main dealer fixed service schedule.

Been absolutely brilliant car.

Mine is a 58 reg Octy elegance saloon  with 94k on the clock

There are still tens of thousands of these engines doing fine 

Soon for sale though ...i must be mad but fancy a change :-)

I had a 2010 vRS TSI so was in the firing line. Did 27800 trouble free miles, but traded it in yesterday for a new Mk3 :happy: . Won't be on tenterhooks on every start up for a while!! The mk3 is a totally different machine - awesome!

2011 vRS TSI with 11.5K miles that I purchased about 3 months ago. An extra years warranty has been provided by the dealer so I'm not concerned about these failures, yet....

2009 with 51k but I've only just bought it. When does the water pump and tensioners need changing?

At 4 years so should have been done last year for car. If not done then consider doing it soon.

I know others week say in other markets it's longer. We are notin other markets.

Check skoda fixed price service rates. Again others will say too dear friends on wheeler you have a good cheap independent garage that is convenient

Assuming that the engine is a TSI (which is what this thread is about) and not a TFSI, then it has a timing chain for which there is no recommended service interval. The water pump is likewise not an item you would have changed unless it fails. The quote below from the Self-Study Program for the 2.0TSI engine explains how it is driven.

'The coolant pump, temperature sensor, and coolant thermostat are integrated in a common housing made of duroplastic.

This housing is attached to the cylinder block below the intake manifold.

A drive gear at the end of the balance shaft drives the coolant pump via a toothed belt. The larger drive gear on the pump acts as a speed reducer. A fan wheel is attached to the coolant pump drive gear to cool the toothed belt.'

Yes mines a 2.0 TSI, so I don't need to do anything?
