New to this forum

Although I've visited this forum as a reader on numerous occasions over the last few months, having just taken delivery of my brand new Octavia vRS TDI I thought it was time I joined properly.

I'm a long-time VW owner (although i did have a couple of Maxda MX5s and a Mini Cooper S in the middle of all the GTis) but needed something with a little more space but still the VW "feel".  I went for the diesel in the hope of reducing my fuel bills and so far - even coming straight from a Mk 5 Golf GTi - I'm not disappointed. It seems to have plenty of "oomph" in the mid-range, which is of course where one drives most of the time, and very sharp handling, so I'm already enjoying it a lot.

So far, my one rather big disappointment is with the standard sound system (Bolero), which sounds terrible - reminiscent of 1970s mono car radio.  I see there have been some discussions about this on another thread, so I may get involved there.

I fully expect to learn a lot from others on this forum to maximise my enjoyment of the new car, but hope I may also be able to contribute usefully too.
