New Octavia with incorrect tow bar wiring loom?

Featured Replies

Hi, First time poster so apologies in advance if I've got the ettiquette wrong.

I also looking at getting a towbar fitted to my new estate, but am a bit confused about some of the terminology in the thread above. Is there somewhere already on the site that answers the following questions:

1. What is "Coding" the vehicle? What does it do?

2. What exactly does the towbar prep kit include? It's fited to my car, but the dealer was pretty vague about what it actually was....

Cheers,

Hi, also a first time poster so my apologies as well.

Very concerned at this thread as I've just received my Octy (3rd one) it's had towbar prep and I'm looking to fit a towbar in the next couple of weeks. Have been quoted  £865.00 by my local dealer which seems a heck of a lot but that apart I would really appreciate the answer to the questions posted by Triplet.

Many thanks

Coding is changing the programming of the various modules in the car so it knows a towbar is fitted.

Towbar prep includes a wiring loom run to the boot and the towbar control module, so all that is needed is the short loom from the module to the towbar socket, and a towbar of course.

£800+ is about 400 too much, go elsewhere.

I now have a car that has been fitted with the right towbar electrics and more importantly, coded correctly. After two weeks of ownership and a total of 4 days at the dealer, if I had not carried out any research or read the handbook from cover to cover, I would still be driving round blissfully unaware that the dealer hadn't coded the car correctly. Case closed!

I would like to add that although the towbar fitting is working, I had asked the dealer for a refund of £170 for towbar prep and some form of compensation for the problems introduced by them. I involved Skoda customer services early on and I have now had a positive outcome with them and so credit where credit is due, they have offered to sort out the dealer refund of £170 for the towbar prep and £500 as a good will gesture for the initial problems. The £500 is basically a credit note and can only be redeemed at Skoda so will be useful for consumables later on. However, if i had just let things go, I'm sure it would have turned out different.

  • 3 weeks later...

Mine had towbar prep at the factory, towbar fitted by the dealer and has just been back for coding.. Probably would not have realised anything was wrong if I wasn't on here.

I have just got mine back from my local dealer, it was in to have the service interval changed to extended, as was incorrectly set by the supplying dealer, they have also carried out an update for the cruise control, and finally have stated that they cannot code the car for the towbar as it is not a Skoda towbar, so much for getting the Skoda dealer to fit the towbar before the car was delivered.

Am just going to let the lease company know and let them sort it out now.
