Come on any one ..... Good shots of mk3 Octavia's on ITV4 and some nice bikes plus 2 wheeled BMW's forget team Sky's Jags but shows Octavia's with the President of France in one.

Lets get behind what's left of Team Sky and Skoda cars.

from a 1st. bike rider and 2nd. Octavia driver.

Colin.

Living in Surrrey I only wish there was a button on my steering wheel to open the passenger door when passing cyclist riding two or more abreast in traffific.. Check the Highway Code. And Before any cycle peeps get on your high horse I will point out there was an interview on the local radio where a club leader said they incouraged riding four abreast to hold up traffic. Note. I ride a bike, use cylcle lanes where available unlike the local Lycra Louts who prefer to hog the middle of the road even if they are on their own..

Rant over,

Rant over,

As a cyclist I agree with you 100%, I get tired of these morons who intentionally hold up traffic.

As a cyclist of 35+ years, I know not a single cyclist that has ever intentionally held up traffic.

Get a grip gents.

What a weekend that was. Stood at the end of our street, waiting for the tour. Then it all kicked off.. that utterly bizarre caravan of giant oranges, fruit shaped vans, Bic Razors and French girls dancing whilst tethered to the top of giant sweets on wheels. Blasting round the corner of Starbeck crossing in a blur of strange noises sounding like an out take from a Clouseau film.

A Cartoon atmosphere, only the French seem to be able to create. The support cars, Team Sky, Moviestar, Cannondale the Mavic cars, The Gendarmerie high fiveing from squad cars! Tons of Superbs and Octy's in team colours.

That eerie silence, we knew they were coming, the helicopters flying at low and high levels, then the awesome spectacle of the Peloton sweeping up the high street in a blaze of colour and noise. A completely surreal, powerful and overwhelming experience. Then it was gone.... In a matter of minutes. I'm hooked!

+1

But as has been said many times before, there are plenty of idiots on the roads - some on bikes and some in motor vehicles.  Life would be a whole lot nicer without any of them.

This would be the highway code that says you are allowed to ride two abreast?

And you think that attempting to knock people off their bikes is an appropriate response for inconveniencing you slightly?

Trouble is with that is just because it says you can doesn't mean you should or its safe to do so.  As a cyclist i'd choose common sense and my own safety before what the highway code says.

Rant over,

you sir are a bell-end.

Here we go AGAIN :-(

Overtaking a shorter, but wider, group of cyclists, is safer than over taking a narrower, but longer, group. You may have to move more into the other lane, but you're in it for less time.

It is indeed

never ride more than two abreast, and ride in single file on narrow or busy roads and when riding round bends

Try driving down the measured mile outside Ilkley, regularly four abreast including round the corners heading to Burley in Wharfedale. Downright dangerous, but because they have a dayglo vest on it makes it OK!

I have nothing against cyclists as long as they too obey the highway code, and that includes not going through red lights

You MUST NOT cross the stop line when the traffic lights are red. Some junctions have an advanced stop line to enable you to wait and position yourself ahead of other traffic

Try telling some drivers that the ASL is for cyclists, and not them.

Wish police would enforce the law prohibiting motor vehicles going in the advanced stop box.

An honest question here, why do drivers get irrate when behind a cyclist or group of cyclists? A vehicle normally is slowed for just a few seconds before being able to pass safely and zip along again, in any kind of traffic the vehicle is soon back behind the next vehicle, where it would have been regardless of the bike. Even if the group of bikes is large and the vehicle has to wait a minute or so it has no real affect on journey time. Is there something inherently frustrating about being behind a bike? A feeling of restriction?

It seems odd to me, and living in London I cycle if I can as it's quicker than the car. Is evident that the large number of cyclists are taking motor vehicles off the road as people chose to cycle not drive, this helps all road users get about by reducing congestion a little. Yet so many car drivers get frustrated when briefly behind a bike.

I know, I'm not saying drivers are perfect!

At the end of the day, we share the same road space and due consideration and following the rules should happen from both sides.

London is a nightmare with cyclists just ignoring traffic lights, not just for drivers but for pedestrians as well crossing the road!

I don't like cyclists that RLJ either but how that gets dragged in to any debate on passing cyclists/get held up by them makes it seem like an excuse for drivers to do things in retaliation.  I've never heard of a cyclist intentionally holding up traffic or being dangerous. Yet drivers (some) do things like 'punishment pass'.  I have been intentionally nudged from behind by a cab in London, road was 2 lanes widening to 4 (Whitehall) , traffic was light so the cab could pass easily, and the lights at parliament square were red anyway, but the cab driver seriously threatens safety because of an issue with cyclists. Nuts.

I'm also a cyclist of over 30 years and common sense does need to be applied despite what the highway code says. Riding two or three abreast is fine but when a car is behind, say on a country road where is it quite narrow, they should slot into single file out of courtesy for the other road user. That does wind me up as I do exactly that when I hear a car behind, it’s not rocket science is it?

As for traffic lights, don't get me started. I work in London 2-3 times a week and walk more than get the tube, the amount of times I have nearly been cleared up on a crossing by a bike who ignores the red light is incredible. If it’s not me then I see it happen to someone else, virtually every day I'm there.

It's a mare being clipped in and you see a red light on a crossing. Must confess I have gone through a few when the pedestrian has crossed or some loon decides to press the button when there is no traffic and he is long crossed.

 forget team Sky's Jags

Nooo, mustnt forget them!

Anyway, race now over, we knew who the winner should be, injured or not!!

I don't know but it's the same attitude that makes them try and block motorbikes filtering through a traffic jam. It makes no sense to stop them - let them pass and get as far out of your way as possible.

Yesterday on my cycle home from work I came to a junction that has a right turn filter lane at the lights. There was a queue of about ten stationary cars so I rode round them all, having to move from the outside to the inside and back again to pass one that was out of position right by the white line, and then stopped in the empty right lane.

The car I slalomed round and the one that I pulled up next to at the front both beeped their horn and gestured at me as though I should have stopped at the back of the queue for some reason.

There really is no logic to that at all. Why on earth should the car at the front who is going straight on, care if someone is turning right

Funny how drivers like to preach about the highway code to cyclists whilst in the main, being blissfully ignorant of the actual contents of it themselves.

Share the road chaps, we all pay for it :)

Now you've done it.....

"Cyclists don't pay road tax!!!1!!!one!!!"

;)

Zero carbon emission rated aren't they? Bikes I mean  :D

That's 'cos they don't produce any CO2.  There may be many other reasons, but that's the best argument for that one in my experience, as it directly correlates to the VED bands.
