Very good choice. The 1.4 is a really good engine, performance of the TDI VRS at a fraction of the cost.

Only up to 134mph then the tdi Vrs will overtake you.

How much is fuel in the UK? 98 is around 94p / L here in oz, with diesel around 86p / L. Unless you do in excess of about 35-40000 ks per year (22000-25000 mile) petrol is cheaper to run. Petrol cars don't depreciate more here so ( in fact people are less likely to buy a diesel) it works out better for most people to buy petrol. Not getting greasy hand when you fill up, and having a smoother, quieter more refined engine. Not to mention the much wider power/torque band. If petrol is similar running costs, it's a no brainer to go with.

My hands were tied when it came to engine choice, as a company car driver I had to choose a diesel, company policy.

I've been driving a Volvo S80 1.6 Edrive for the last 4 years, it's been an incredible car but I just miss that umph when you need it, so have gone for 2.0TDI Octy.

I love the 1.6 for tax purposes and for everyday driving, I just wanted that extra punch. So wish I had the petrol option though

Hopefully a mid September delivery.

Luckily my company allows petrols (if they do more than 18 km/L), so I opted for the 1.4 TSI DSG over the 2.0 TDI.

So far I like everything about the car, the highlights being the engine and ACC :) I also like I don't need gloves when I refuel as I did with my previous car.

I have no idea about MPG as I have a company petrol card and unlimited private miles :)

We've got the 1.6 Diesel Estate & had it for 8 weeks now, we love it, but we were driving a 1.2 Corsa previously so we didn't have much to compare. We are currently on our Hols in France and over the past 1,200 miles in France we have averaged 60.2 mpg, that is 90% autoroute. There are four adults fully loaded with luggage and at times we have been 1,200 metres above sea level so lots of hills.

The Diesel has been fantastic, smooth & quite with enough get up & go for us. We intend to get a Caravan next year and after having the Car for 2 months I feel confident the 1.6 will do the job.

Good to hear fatbelly33 as I'm driving my 1.6 to Nice this week, 2000 mile round trip fully loaded plus roof box.
