DSG Knock / Clunk in drive

Featured Replies

I'm not sure about a DMF. It's a standard 140bhp diesel. I haven't been to the dealers to see what they think as I haven't been in good health & needed transport for medical appointments. I'll try to get it in this next week.

My reply to the Dual Mass Flywheel question was brief as I was using the dreaded i-phone and I find it a bit small to operate.

I honestly don't know if I have a DMF as I'm not too knowledgeable about the workings... So long as it's comfortable and starts I'm happy!

What are the symptoms if there is a DMF problem? As I say mine has just started and only when cold for a few miles. It is almost like a mild clunk noise when I lift off slightly and same when I accelerate. The deceleration / acceleration is done gently and I don't think there is any downshift or upshift on the DSG. I never had it on my Tig but hat was a 7 speed DSG and I'm told the Haldex was the opposite to the Yeti (i.e. one was wet & the other dry).

I'd like advice as to whether I should get it to the dealer as a matter of urgency or see how it goes... hopefully it doesn't go "bang"!

Your car does have a DMF.

Other symptoms include a rattle on idle from the gearbox area that goes away when you engage drive.

By the way. The haldex is the same between your old and new cars. It's the gearboxes that differ. The 7 speed was the "dry" one and the 6 speed is "wet". Meaning that oil is used to lubricate and cool the clutches.

Man my 08 Octavia VRS estate does this knocking/thuding thing when taking up power everynow and then. Its not metalic and I have changed the top engine mount, the top gear box mount and the bottom mounts in the sub frame but not the dog done. I have also added the solid mount type insert bush to the sub frame. Still a random thud everynow and then. Say breaking into a corner the powering of and thud then all good. I have tried thrashing it through the mountians the break what ever it is but just thr same, no better or no worse. Any one no what this is?!?

Thanks.

Hi Just read this with interest as my 2005 dsg car two weeks ago started clanging and banging as if something loose or drive shaft problems, already ruled them out as 1 is new less than 12 months ago plus it was sudden onset but only when turning fine in straight line. Inspection has shown a little bit of play in the rear engine mount looks a swine to do but doesn't account for the banging have grabbed the engine and shaken it violently. further investigation to follow when it stops raining, did you ever find out the cause of yours? MInes 1.6 petrol 140 thou miles.

Tried going to a different dealership or an independent garage at all?

Hi guys.I have the same problem ad Puzller at my supetb.Did anyone found what was the issue,?

Had similar with our manual diesel Passat.

It would occasionally vibrate fairly violently ( vibration varied with engine revs ) after going around a sharp corner, but only with my wife driving.

She has a habit of changing gear mid corner, that seemed to set it off.

It was the DMF worn, car had done 150k miles.

I think the clutch being operated mid corner allowed the DMF to go off centre due to the wear & so become un-balanced with the resulting vibration.

Hi Guys

Just to jump in on this thread.  After 115,000 miles My petrol 2012 Octavia VRS with DSG has started  to develop a slight clunk from the NS front this mainly occurs at very low speed in traffic or crawling round a car park. when your go on off the throttle a lot. It comes and goes but after 6ths it seem to be getting slightly worse.  I’ve not had chance to investigate properly yet but it’s sounds just like a slack pot joint on a drive shaft. I’m hoping what’s the case and it’s not an internal gearbox /Diff problem.  I maintain the car myself and have owned it since it was 6 months old but I have the DSG serviced by Skoda every 50k in an attempt to avoid gearbox issues.
