Improving light output on H7 bulbs

Ok thanks for he help :)

Nothing ever straight forward is it, too good to be true!

If I put 55 watt HIDS in, I'd get same problem?

I thought a recode was just to get rid of the dash light, didn't realise it would affect high beam too :-/

I'll put Halogens back in for now, maybe some nice person with VCDS might reprogram for me for a bit of beer money :)

  • 2 x £15.99 - that IS cheap.  At that price, not much more than uprated bulbs, could be worth a punt if actually compatible with your car.  I'm sure others will be along to answer that for you.

  • http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/331046666030 £24.99 delivered. This seller is what most use and comes recommended.

So which 4300k kit would I need for 2011 vrs as that london colour link says if using canbus bulb warning then order different kit

Hi I am going to get a set of the London colour hid's aswell, want the sidelights to look as close as possible to them (will be the 4300 ones). Can I just put normal led sidelight bulbs in or will this put a light on dash? Will be getting the set of hid's that has decoder thing as don't have vcds. Car is 2006 octavia vrs

Get the same one as the link a few posts above and recode with VCDS. That's what I've done. Gonna fit and code them on Friday.

Thanks for replies and help.

On the plus side, the lights are great. I ordered 4300K as per the link but then messaged the seller for 6000k. I feared they might be too blue but no, they are perfect, more of a crisper white light which I was after. The kits are also of very good quality.

I have PM'd a guy local to me and he reckons he can sort the coding on my car. Fingers crossed :)

Also ordered a new headlamp shoulder bolt for for my heavy handiness!

Is 55w low beam or high beam?

What happens if I get a 55w hid kit? Will I still need a recode?

I had ordered 35 watt for low beam. I'm meeting the fellow briskodian tonight to code the car.

I expect a 55 watt kit will also need coding too...

Just trying to fit mine now.

Anyone know how to get the bulb holder in place? Can't seem to fit it back on to hold the HID bulb in place as the HID bulb is hard wired into the plugs etc...

Unclip one side of the wire holder. You can then take it off and put it round the bulb wiring then slot the pins back in to re-fit it.

Not quite sure what you're getting at there Phil? I've had a long day!

It's the metal retaining clip from the original holder that I need to somehow get to secure the HID bulb in place.

Cut the grommet off the full kit can be installed into the headlamp. You should then be able to slide the metal clip over the connectors and down to the HID bulb.

You may have to shave a bit of plastic off the connector or stretch it - you will see what I mean.

I took both headlights out, so much easier

This is what it should look like.

Ah yes!

That's the one. I got confused with previous style headlight clips!

Phil

No problem, I had to "******ise" the clips by cutting one side to get them over the wires (read from the Fabia 2 forum), and shave a bit off each side go the rubber cover for the rear of the bulb as pointed out by Jazz, thanks!

What's required for the coding? I've had a play around and coded in xenons with shutter etc... but no joy, still have the warning light on the dash. Any ideas?

Sorted it now. Works fine [emoji4]

Excellent stuff. Think mine are sorted now too. Just need to replace the headlight shoulder bolt I broke and sidelight bulb!

There was no option for without shutters on mine. With the with shutters option ticked (byte 13 or 14?), it turned my DRL's off. I had to tick the bi-xenons without additional high beam option on byte 17. That sorted it.

If I put in HIDs for lowbeam and have to wait a few days or week to get a recode, will I still be able to drive on them? Is it only the error that will be bother

Anyone got answer as to what happens without the recode and Hid kit installed?

Is it just an annoying warning or will they not function?

Thanks Mike. So if I get to borrow a VAGCOM can someone point me to what I need to do exactly? Is it relatively simple task?

Very easy with VCDS. Mine would flicker and sometime go off when I put high beam on.

Can someone put exactly what to do on VCDS for this. I've been wondering and watching about this mod for a while now but never done it as I don't know how to do it via VCDS.
