... and going on from what dab says re: thrid party damage, a lot of insurance companies feel that someone driving an old heap is not as likely to drive it as carefully / look after it in terms of safety etc as someone in a more modern or more valuable car. Hence they would charge more premium for a lower value car for that part of the risk (liability).

Therefore for every year older your car gets, the premium should increase in proportion ??

Errrr....

Or if you look at it from an insurers POV then you would think,

A 1.2 Fabia (perish the thought)

Somehow, i think the Fab would be a lot cheaper to insure ;)

Our Fab 1.9SDI two year old costs

I also drive a car which can out-brake most other "normal" cars on the road today. Do i get a safety discount then ?? :D

Oh but i do, usually to avoid idiots in Saxo's on free insurance deals

... not quite monkey hanger (although funnily enough on my old mundano that is exactly what happened) - insurers will rate your car on a large variety of different issues including liability / age of vehicle / value / location / driver history etc etc only being one.

What I am saying is that the third party liability element is the one that will always have the largest downside for an insurer - the value of the car is insignificant (for most cars) compared to what a court might award for killing someone. Their assesment of this side will heavily bias the quote.

Just as an aside, go to an online quote engine and try putting in for a third party quote only if you have an old car - in many cases you will find it is MORE expensive than going for fully comprehensive as insurers are rating on the attitude of the driver to their car. Its a very strange business and you will never be able to figure out excatly why quotes vary so much unless you actually worked for the insurer and knew thier specific rating schedules and preferences.

lmao, I love it when they pull up next to you at the lights, base thumping, windows down, and then the look of dispair on their faces when you look at them in the rear view mirror.

I thought third party was the legal minimum, and therefore part of every policy ??

Wasn't aware of any age limit Jason- my bro had third party aged 18-21 until he saw sense wand went fully comp.
