Octy drains its battery.

Featured Replies

Hi guys, I know there is no clear cut answer to this one, but I thought I'd consult the wealth of knowledge that frequent these forums and see if anyone has experienced anything similar. It started off a few months ago, when I wasn't using the car very much, I'd attempt to start it after 1-2 weeks and the battery was dead. Thinking the battery was on its last legs a new one was purchased, which seemed to do the trick for a while. Then slowly but surely, its struggling to start again after any period of time, and getting worse by the day, even sitting outside work for 8 hours today it sounded very sluggish when turning over, I have no idea what could be taking the power?

So answers on a post card. Do I have a dodgy battery or is my power escaping by some other means!

Thanks in advance!

Have you checked the alternator is actually charging correctly?

Alternator starting to die???

Start by checking the fuse box on top of the battery.

Is there a aftermarket alarm on in bud ?

Or aftermarket stereo ?

Thanks for all replies so far...

always assumed you would get the battery light on when that failed, will have a look.

Start by checking the fuse box on top of the battery.

there's a fuse box on top of the battery, confirmed! :-p it all looks ok to me under there, no obvious signs of failure.

(Lloyds question about the alarm and stereo)

Nope, totally stock standard. Nothing is plugged in, its a mystery!

I haven't got the tools to do any conclusive tests on it, so it may have to go to the garage tomorrow.

Thanks to all for replying so quickly! Any other ideas feel free to share.

Edited 'cos I'm a numpty and somehow got my quotes mixed up and can't get them back now...

A quick vid here of how to test your alternator.
