Hello I have a VRS Kombi/ estate on order. The Skoda website says the total length of the car is 4.685 metres. My garage wall-to-door is 4.85 metres, so it'll go, but it will be tight. I've ordered a towbar for occasional use of our Thule bike carrier.

 

My car arrives in February sometime. In the meantime, I'd be grateful if someone could answer 2 questions If you have an Octavia 3 with the factory towbar fitted:

 

1) When fitted, how much does the towbar piece add to the length of the car in total?

2) "detachable": how easy/ quick is it to remove from its position on the car?

If not answered before tomorrow night I can get the tape out and confirm the extra length and time to fit.

My experience with a previous Audi which looks almost exactly the same the fitting is really easy. Detaching equally easy.

Once a few years old if the mounting stuff isn't perfectly clean and greased it can become a bit more work due to corrosion IMO.

On my vRS the towbar from bumper to end of the protection cap 10,5cm

I had a Witter detachable tow bar on my Superb which took just seconds to pet on or remove. Mine was totally invisible when removed and stops you me from banging your shins when when loading  or unloading the boot.

I had my tow bar fitted after purchase by a reputable installer at a cost of £493 including electrics.
