Fabia vrs tsi or Monte Carlo tdi

Featured Replies

To cut a long story shut, I'm in a position where I can treat myself to a fairly new fabia. I just need peoples advice as to which would be better? I know the vrs has it's problems and the diesel will be more economical, but I'm a fan of the dsg gearbox.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

I'd go with the diesel, Shark Performance can get it up to nearly 150bhp with a stage 1 map and intercooler upgrade, 135bhp with just the map. Reliable, tuneable, economical, ticks all the boxes for me :)

Best drive them both and see what you like.

the Diesel Manual with 105ps or the Petrol Automatic with 180ps.

The Twincharger will give you more smiles per miles i would think.

The Diesel will take you a bit further per gallon.

The Re-map will mean you forgo the Manufacturers warranty on the nearly new cars engine and drivetrain.

They can get them up to about 170 BHP I'm not sure about the drive ability however

Edit - That's Darkside even

Remapping doesn't bother me. I wouldn't remap the vrs, as that might speed up the problems renowned on the tsi engine.

At present you can not Remap a vRS with the Newer Engine / ECU from late 2012, Early 2013 anyway.

Just fit a Tuning Box.

The revised engine 1.4 TSI CTHE might be renowned for problems, but that would have no basis in Fact.

That was a problem with the Previous engine, 1.4 TSI CAVE, and a few of the first replacement CTHE.

No reports of the Same Issues if you are looking at a Mid 2013-2014 car.

Very different cars, try them both would be the best bet. See what fits best!

But yeah..... VRS wins hands down, even with a map the 1.6 derv can't compete.

Try both see what you think

I had a diesel monte for a year and couldn't get on with it

Quickest p/x I've ever had

Replaced with vrs and never looked back

Only snag is it will be slow, even with the map. :-(

Torque will be better though?

Unless you fit a bigger turbo and then it will be potentially quicker than the vRS

Drivability comes back into it though.

DarkSide offer a straight swop turbo upgrade from the CR170, combined with the intercooler and mapping, it will out run the Fabia VRS.

Personally. Id be tempted to get a ibiza with a cr140, then just get that mapped rather than start changin turbo etc.

Doubt that very much. You have to remember the DSG adds a good performance boost.

People are too busy slating the MK2 VRS that like it or loathe it, the 180ps motor and DSG box make it a quick little motor out of the box. Like it or loathe it, it can embarrass more substantial cars.

Not many people want to buy a 1.6 TDI and then spend thousands modifying it to compete with a 16k hatchback.

And then try and explain all of the modifications to their insurance providers!

If you want decent performance and an auto box buy the VRS.

If you want MPG's get a monte derv.

Mapped Cr140 ibiza would be the best of both worlds IMO.

You can get the monte in dsg too.

I'm not too sure you can get the monte in DSG.... I may be wrong! I'm sure you can have the 1.6TDI with it but not in the Monte Carlo guise.

Mapped this or that will be perfect.

A 14 Plate vRS with under 1000 miles can be had from a Skoda Dealership for less than £14,000.

Not sure on the Remapped 1.6 TDI CR with more mods and the 'Will Outrun' stuff.

Does that mean it will accelerate faster 30-80 mph  or is faster 0-120 mph,

or actually at 80 mph they will both be doing 80 mph,

it is just that the Twincharger will be there quicker than the Tuned 1.6 TDI CR.

So i can not see where the Outrunning happens.

All the torque is lovely, but when you are behind you are behind, it is quite simple.

I thought you could, but i cant find any examples.

Seems to just be on the TSI montes.

Oh. Im glad we cleared that up.

Oh. Im glad we cleared that up.

Otaylor38,

That is OK,

why not quote the whole bit about the Twincharger getting there quicker than the Tuned 1.6 TDI CR.

You do get a Monte Carlo with a DSG. it is just it will be Left Hand Drive.

My Clio will get there quicker ;)
