18bhp? As many as that? ;).

Sorry. I felt somebody had to haha.

Don't know what your talking about ;)

Bikes are just as addictive as cars , you get a fast one then you just want a faster one

I got to 300hp on my last one before calling it a day , still felt slow to me sometimes

Agreed on that. Its sorts why i dont bother too much with cars though.

300bhp? Christ.

Im on 110bhp atm. Still feels quick, but im tempted for a thou v-twin. Maybe next year!

Just add Tuning Box and you are at 211 BHP, and hot to trot.

You maybe still have a Warranty as well.

Much Cheapness, and no Driving skills required, just floor it.

I've just ruined this thread now by saying don't get a Fabia, sell the house and buy a GTR ;)

http://www.darksidedevelopments.co.uk/products/1-6-tdi-common-rail-170hp-turbo-upgrade.html

You could do all of the above for £2500 pick up a Monte Carlo 1.6tdi for £13k and for under £16k you've got a great car wich I would have over the run of the mill VRS.

Or just spend 14K and get a nearly new VRS with the same performance, plus the VRS is much rarer sight on the road than a Monte. ;-)

Spend under a grand on a tuning box, CAI and a uprated intercooler if you want to drive really hard and you will be pushing 215bhp or more.

Heck, even just £300 on a TMC box will get you into the post 200BHP club.

Bye bye 1.6TDI....

Depends if you like driving one offs you put together or pulling up alongside the same car saying "how cool are we" ;)

£1000 on a tuning box!!! A map is less than £500!!

But you can not get anyone to MAP a 1.4 TSI CTHE,  so a Tuning Box it needs to be.

Spend under a grand on a tuning box, CAI and a uprated intercooler if you want to drive really hard and you will be pushing 215bhp or more....

TMC box is £300 new

Forge IC is £450

ITG Maxogen ia £300

So £1050 for a "1 off" VRS compared with £2500 for a "1 off" Monte with less performance.

And unless you tricked the exterior, you would pull up to another Monte or VRS and it would look exactly the same anyways....

So I'd hardly say either car is a one off with a few mild engine tweaks.....

Just my opinion!

This is what you should do. Top advice. Love the cars

M135i must have been a manual and the driver must have been asleep and/or crap.

320bhp 450nm from 1300rpm and 0-62mph in 4.9 with the auto, just plant foot and go with no traction issues in the dry.

What impresses me most when I drive them is what happens above 60 though the speed build is relentless. Much better than the 280bhp Scooby's I've had.

Is that 6 seconds to 100 km (60 mph) on that BMW?  & 11 seconds to 160 km (100 mph)  Not great.

The Standard Twincharger DSG can do the 100 MPH in 4th Before Changing up.

A Stage 1 Twincharger with 205 bhp from a Free to start when you want to go, without needing reaction time from lights,

will do the 0-100 in under 11 seconds without going into 5th.

Not bad really for 1390 cc & available new for £15,000.

Ye that is the problem with Manuals often,

some driver skill required, to get the best out of them.

Amazing how often those that splash the cash have an excuse,  like 'we were not racing'.

& up the strip they maybe are not,

just against the clock, and reaction time. But surely they are trying.

The Briskoda Member does have good reaction times.

All the gear no idea!

I cant see a point in going on the strip if you arent going to give it some.

I suppose for the OP and the thread the advice is that performance is relative to your expectations.

Whatever you have something will be quicker. How often will you use the performance and how much extra will you pay for that in fuel. And is that cost worth it to you with your mileage.

Go on other forums and 300bhp+ is a starting point and we are getting to the stage where reps 2.0 Diesels are pushing 200bhp, in fact the next Passat (Due 2015) is to have a 236bhp 2.0D with 450nm of torque.

But saying all that the OP may find a 105bhp 1.6Tdi will be plenty and will be cheap to run while still looking sporty.

Only way is to test drive them at length yourself and see what you think. Both my wife and I are Fabia fans and have purchased several but we wouldn't purchase a VRS or Monte because of the ride. But that just shows you how different people are, we really wanted to like them but not for us. But you don't know unless you test drive them yourself.

I thought we were at the stage where Rep Mobile cars from Audi are to be the Ultra, and diesels with 180 ps,

the looks and enough go & keep your licence.

2015-16 and HMRC will dictate the Business users transport as much as needs and wishes.

In the UK 105 ps is fine and fast enough to loose your licence.

BMW's new 2.0d has 190ps (Single Turbo) and 230PS (Twin Turbo) so VAG can't stay behind.

VW have already stated to the press that the 240PS 2.0D will be available in the B8 Passat. The 10speed DSG will follow too rated for engines up to 369lbft.

They are still Fat Lumps and need that extra just to get them to have some oomph.

They will get them lighter soon enough,

it is odd how slow some of those 200 BHP Dirty Diesels are at present.

30hp is enough to lose your licence !

I dont car about hp so much as acceleration , we live close to a fast,  busy dual carraigeway which has very short slip roads and poor views , if you cant get to 60 in 10 seconds or less you are taking your life in your hands in the mornings

Weights are coming down too, take the reps favorite the 3 Series. 120kg lighter than the last model. With the new 2.0d engines the single turbo version will be getting close to 7 secs to 62 and the twin turbo version close to 6 seconds to 62. No official figures yet but the current lower powered versions are 7.4 and 6.6. New engines will come with the facelift next year.

A decade ago they would be figures for performance flagships and now available to your rep in his 320d.

The new MQB Passat will be 85-100kg lighter than the already light in the class model. So that will be about 1400kg for a 2.0D DSG.  Consider the Citroen C5 2.0D auto is a quarter of a ton heavier that's a decent achievement.

In fact if we go by Mass in Service on the V5 my Passat is 1495kg and my old (But current model) C5 was 1720kg.

A 1400kg 2.0D Passat will be a great achievement.

Probably why this..

did 10mpg less than this.

The added weight and the older tech gearbox.

Vrs 0-60 6.5 seconds or so...can't see a diesel hitting that. And the vrs gets up to 110mph in 4th gear...

I personally wouldn't get a diesel unless I was doing over 15k miles a year prob even more than that tbh. My previous car was a 1.4 hdi and I was only getting 45mpg, I get 35mpg in my vrs. No brainer for me!!

They just need to start publishing real Kerb Weights, as the Cars come Speced, when filled with Fuel, and with a driver of 80 KG or so,

Spare Wheels in the Boot etc.

It is amazing the real weights where magazines can be bothered to weigh road test cars, compared to the Manufacturers weights.

You can buy a current 3 series 2.0D that will hit 62mph in 6.6 seconds so 0-60 should be under 6.5. The facelift models will have more power and a wider spread of torque so should improve on that.

And if you drop down to a 1 Series hatchback you can buy a current 2.0D with a 0-62 time of 6.3 seconds and again that's with the current engine.

I wouldn't buy diesel unless I was doing 15k+ miles a year either, the new turbo petrols are excellent. Doesn't alter what the reps will be getting soon though.

Cheers

Yep agree.

Take the last 3 cars I've used for towing.

C5.

Kerbweight in brochure 1645kg, Mass in service on log book 1720kg. Weight on weighbridge with full tank 1745kg.

Passat 2.0D DSG

Kerbweight in brochure 1500kg, Mass in service on log book 1495kg. Weight on weighbridge with full tank 1505kg.

Mondeo 3.0V6

Kerbweight in brochure 1445kg. Mass in service on log book. 1450kg. Weight on weighbridge with full tank 1525kg.

Mass in service should be 90% fuel and 75kg driver

Kerbweight is a defined term and doesn't include fuel , other liquids, spare wheel and tools etc
