Hi folks,

 

I can't seem to find a related post but apologies if one already exists.

 

I've a 2008 Octavia Est 1.9 tdi diesel. Car has 140k miles on it. Never had any major fault issues, car was fully serviced about 6 weeks ago and rear shocks were done.

 

Problem- car lost power mid drive for my wife a week and a half ago. Car had done a 10 minute spin about three hrs previously with no issue. She was then able to restart the car but it cut out again within 150 yards. I started the car three hours later without issue and reversed it into the driveway, not a problem.

 

Car towed to garage the next day. Cut out twice for mechanic when he took it from the tow truck into his garage. He had it running for the next two days and it didn't cut out. He says he had it hooked up to computer and it showed 4 main computer faults. He's not our usual mechanic as we've recently moved house. I reckon he doesn't have the proper computer and can't give full details.

 

I collected the car a day later and it has completed 3/4 days of short spins. Drove it for a total of two half hrs today with a break of about 2 hrs in between. On last leg of the journey light bulb warning light came on and went off about 10 mins later. We reached our destination and I turned off the car. I then began to check lights. Tried to start the car to check full beams and it now wont start. I've checked it about three times since and it wont start. Lights, locks and clock all working. Engine does not even turn over- no life whatsoever.

 

Sorry if I'm leaving out vital info, I've zero car knowledge. A kind uncle is going to hook it up to VAG-COM computer. I'd appreciate any help or items to look out for.

A poor battery can do lots of strange things to the Octavia. Might be worth checking.

Thanks for the reply. Just scanned car and VAGCOM is reporting multiple modules "Cannot be reached 1100" such as engine ECU and more.

Looks like a battery problem to me

Thanks for reply. We've disconnected the battery for the night and are going to try a scan again in the morning. Will post the results then. Praying it's the battery and not the ECU.
