aerial removal

Featured Replies

On the mark 1 fabia I expected the aerial to just come away after unscrewing it - is there something I've missed or does it just require a good pull -

Ta

Good pull should do it.

grab hold and pull about 15 times harder than you think you should

should eventually just pop out if you put enough elbow grease into it

Thanks guys - done !!

It's quite stubborn to remove.

Guys... are you sure about this (don't want to offend anyone)?

On mine - the aerial unscrews, but then it's like it's fixed to the car, like it only unscrews so you can flip it down (I read that you need to unscrew something from inside the car to get it off) - but mine is a 2002 6Y2 AZF 1.4 8V - could be totally different from the vRS.

Can you tell me how mine comes off?

Pull it.

Overnight I had someone remove my aerial stem..unbeknown to me, and damaged base unit threads.

Damaged threads in the base unit, meant a full replacement (including base unit) ..OUCH!!! £45.00

Skoda parts fella said, aerial is designed to be theft proof and has an aerial theft deterrent feature.

I know through experience I could unscrew aerial stem to a point where the stem just would go-round-and round without detaching, it resisted being pulled/yanked-out.

I did at first try to screw another aerial stem into place, but no, it was then I could just make-out damaged threads in base unit.

This is on a 2005 Fabia VRS..

nowt like a good tug to get it off :smirk:

On all the mk1 fabia I believe there is an anti theft barb on the end. I have to unscrew, fold down and pull it out to remove it.

Photo's of the Aerial base connection.

The Aerial does come out but takes a lot of hard pulling.

Fully Unscrew it, it will be totally loose, but won't yet come out.

It feels like your going to break it, but it will come off, when you tug it hard enough (i say that to all the girls!!) :peek:

As everyone has said PULL IT

I replaced mine because the original was too tall to go in the garage. Everytime i reversed out it folded it in half.

Is it a case of pulling the aerial directly upwards - as in vertically - or pulling it horizontally, towards the rear of the car, once unscrewed and folded flat ? I have tried pulling vertically and the base of the aerial was lifting from the car, yet the aerial itself would not budge. I have a miniature 'bee sting' to replace the original.

I have a Classic fabia which is as far away from a VRS as you can get. I unscrewed it as far as i could, then laid towels on my roof and while holding onto the base I gave it a small pull with a claw hammer. Worked a treat!

Ah right okay thank you for the tip - that sounds like it could work well. And did it not damage the thread or the base? Did you replace the aerial or did the original screw straight back in?

JRJG

I undid the screw and mine fell off! but PO was a window cleaner so I suspect it got bashed everytime he took a ladder off the roof! (would explain why I had no signal at all) got a new one off ebay for £9 - actual radio channels! huzzah!

Indeed- with enough power we can ruin almost everything :-)

Thanks for the diagram. So the aerial rod on my car (2007) is: "a component of the base" then?

I.e - I'll have to take the base off to remove the aerial rod, and then replace with the short aerial?

No damage done at all mate! I replaced with with a bee sting one but I screwed the old one back in just to test it and it worked fine!

i’m wondering the same! Lady owner currently stuck outside car wash trying to get the aerial off 2009 Fabia estate! I’m pulling as hard as I can and suspect I’m going to hurt myself before I get it removed. Already hurt my left hand in the process. and didn’t pack my claw hammer in the car today! 😱. Can anyone confirm if you need to pull with aerial in a Horizontal position or vertical? Thanks all.

Well I got my answer! I gave it another good hard yank back horizontally after posting that with a slipper sock wrapped around my hand to avoid further damage! And it came out. Clean car coming up! Thank goodness for this forum! Thanks all. 💚 Now just got to get the bugger back in again!! 🤗

Having the same problem.  Thank you for the suggestions.  Hoping they will work.

I found a trim remover tool worked much better than pulling.  The ones like a claw hammer end. Push into the gap, rock it back and the aerial pops out without strain.
