1.9tdi and the turbo

Featured Replies

Hi

My previously trusty 58 reg 1.9tdi Octavia has developed what appears to be the fairly common sticky turbo vane.  On a regular basis as I accelerate onto a dual carriageway near work the turbo cuts out and the car is limited to 2,500 rpm (which resets when the ignition is turned off/on).

Before I take it near a dealer (who want £150 just to do a diagnostic) I wanted to get a feel for the likely costs.  Can they clean the turbo or is it a replacement?  Any idea how much it's likely to cost?

Thanks

Iain

Find someone near you with VCDS to check the car, no need to go to a dealer.

Have a look / search for the sticky vane thread. Its full of good information.

My car was going into limp mode at about 2.5k revs the other week. The cause was a split boost pipe.
