Replacing GU10 ceiling lights

Featured Replies

Hello.

Has anyone replaced the bulbs in their GU10 ceiling lights with LED equivalents? I'm sick of replacing bulbs and wondered if LED was a good replacement. I see lots of LED replacements on amazon but i currently have 6 x 55W and am not sure if 6 x 40W LED would be bright enough. Its in a kitchen so I need a decent bit of light in there. I cant see 50W or 60W replacements.

Thanks.

When buying GU10 LEDs...be careful.....

Screwfix are selling 4w LED's in a pack of 10 for £33.

Made by LAP whoever they are but i've fitted loads to customers house's and they've been fine.

No one's died yet!

Led is definitely the way forward, it won't be long before you can no longer buy the incandescent or halogen type lamps any more.

IKEA ftw.

IKEA ftw.

IKEA are I think selling as a loss leader. You can get them for about £4 each. I bought 10 just under a year ago and recently 3 failed in a week. Fair play to IKEA they swapped them even though I didn't have the receipt.

You have to be careful as some of them don't seem to like heat, several that we bought from an online retailer worked for a bit then started to strobe. IkEA ones have been faultless so far after a year.

Another recommendation here to replace them with LEDs. I recently got three from LED Hut, who regularly have deals on making the bulbs quite cheap.

B&M are doing Duracell LED bulbs for 4.99 for 4.

I would use phillips but they are pricey. I have the Ikea ones in my house and they are really good. If you want quality you need to go to an electrical wholesaler.

You can guess what my job is

Watch out, they might cause pregnancy.

Lidl and Aldi do them every so often.

I've not tried them yet.

We had 98 in the office I used to work in. Something like 27 in one room (with 4 people in it).

Edmunson electrical is who I use. Makes are Robus and a few others. You need to think about colour as well. 2700k is closest to halogens then 3000k is white and then its 3300k very white. Where in the country are you

I've got 4x gu4 and 20x gu10 I'd like to replace with LED, but it's a pricey move. Almost £90 last time I looked into it.

I doubt I'd see the returns to cover their cost.

I've ordered 8 to do the kitchen and the bathroom from LED hut. Came in at £47 for their recommended GU10 replacement. Free next day delivery too. Seems good to me. Their website seems good - plenty of information.

A bit late to the thread, but I recently bought 12 of these from LED Hut and have been very happy with them.  The warm white colour and brightness is an exact match (to my eyes) to the 50W halogens they replaced; they are only different insofar as they have a wider beam angle (so better overall coverage) and shadows are a bit sharper.  I've only had them for 1 month so I can't speak about longevity.

Buy one first to make sure it fits. I've bought 3 brands of LED GU10 now for my daughters room, and none of them fit correctly in the holders. The curvature is slightly (and I mean about 0.5mm difference, it's barely visible by eye side-by-side) different from the old bulbs which means they don't recess into the holders as far, and then the retaining ring won't fit back into the holder. I tried Philips ones, Tesco ones, and I forget what the third brand was. I might try Ikea ones as they're near work and usually don't quibble about returns, but I'm not hopeful...

Maybe not in the uk but I order bayonet 100w and 60w old school bulbs

from overseas via amazon or ebay.

I have remote control dimmers in my kitchen, bedroom and living room and like having control over the intensity

of light so every where gets a 100 watter.

Ikea ones are also an awkward fit I found. I will be looking into the Led hut as so many people have rated it.
