Car Advice

Featured Replies

Hello all! Recently moved into my first home (took 4-5 months which was a joke so saved up a bit of cash) and am fully settled in. I am now looking for a new car to replace my fabia vrs. I have been looking at :

10k budget

Golf edition 30 - unsure on DSG (heard/read horror stories of mechatronic unit but more info would be great)

mk5 golf R32

Nissan 350z

Would really love the nissan but common sense says that the running costs etc would be too much now i have a mortgage to pay! Might be applicable to the R32 as well...

In terms of the Golf ED30. Is DSG worth having? Is it really that good? Or a ticking time bomb thats gonna hit me one day with a big bill lol.

So yeah fire ahead any suggestions or advice :)

Cheers

Dan

Clio 1.2 that's 20 miles away from you ;) how about a Golf R on a S3?

That Clio Too quick for me mate! Haha ;) I don't think my budget can stretch that far even if I chucked the funds of the sale of the Fabia in there, could get me a high miles one maybe !

I would stay clear of Dsg. Whilst fast changing is not engaging . I only got mine because its all it came with. If the mech unit fails( mine did ) your talking 2500 pounds. Id go for the R32 bullet proof engine great sound and soon all we will be driving will be 1.6 turbo. Thats if you can afford the fuel and tax.

Whats your budget?

The Nissan is big and heavy.  Not as sporty to drive as you may think.

Citroen Cactus.

Citroen Cactus.

Not as good value as I expected unless you want pauper spec.

Pay premium for edition30

Prices are rediculous

Be better off buying a regular mk5 gti for half the price

If you want fun I'd actually pick up a used 2nd hand Fiesta ST2.

A bit popular, but cracking fun for the money and a warranty as you are on a budget.

Any of the cars you list above could go wrong and shoot your budget full of holes...

My ST3 was quick enough at Bedford to beat almost all the modded Skodas.  And that's with just a Ford backed remap on road tyres/brakes.

Cornering speeds are surprising, as is the handling.

The tag says £10k, although it's not written in the 1st post.

Used Focus ST?

Thanks for the replies guys, 10k budget now put it in original post lol

never looked at the fiesta st2 to be honest may do a bit of mooching now.

focus ST is pretty common round by me so fancy something different. I was also looking at mazda 2.3T MPS too .

Thing i like about the ED30 is a stage 1 remap puts it up to 300 bhp.

Agree.... but on drive the deal you can have a top spec model for £15400.

If you can live with a top speed of 117mph it would be a nice car.

Wonder if Citroen have moved on with reliability and quality?

I went and had a look in my local dealer.

Like the idea, but it really is rather cheap and cheerful.

Probably better off with a Fabia Estate... Similar size and cheaper.

If you were local you could come out in mine.

I was refering to where ToxicVRS is. :)

The Nissan would feel rather unrefined after your R36...

I don't mind slumming it !  :notme:
