Spare Wheel Not Secured

Featured Replies

My spare and the jacking kit are all in a polystyrene (?) case in the spare wheel well.  On every other car I've owned they have been secured either by a screw in handle or a strap, this car seems to have neither.  It's quite annoying sometimes hearing it squeaking away on a rough bit of tarmac, is it usual for it to be loose like this ?

No, it should be held down with a screw and plastic large bolt in the middle and the tool kit should have a strap around it holding it to the spare.

So the strap that I found loose in the boot was to secure the jack/tool holder to the spare wheel!!!  Pity it has now disappeared into the black hole I call a garage.  I have a pair of work gloves and a couple of cloths on top of the tool kit to stop the foam squeaking against the spare wheel.  I have some webbing and buckles so could probably make a replacement strap.

I still have the strap, it was under the spare wheel.  I've tried different ways of securing the jacking kit to the wheel but it stills squeaks on rough tarmac.   Maybe I'll pack the gap between the tool kit and the wheel with something to stop it moving.

One good thing I found out while faffing around with the spare and the tool kit was that the jacking pad I used on my trolley jack for my last car is a good fit for this car too. :D   I finally found the jacking points too, the wonder of actually reading the owners manual ! Haha

The strap is just meant to go through a hole on either side of the wheel, then nice and tight up and over the polystyrene in the divot bits on it, the two squarish areas just past 2 & 8 o'clock in the picture, right across the wheel nut spanner. Never had a peep out of mine.
